Hoping to pick up my 4Runner tomorrow or on Monday. It left Portland today and should arrive by Sunday morning. My contact said he might be able to get a service tech in on Sunday to program the keys/remote, etc and check the car in. If not, at least I'll be able to watch the Seahawks game. #gohawks

I'll post photos as soon as I get it. I've been waiting for my AG TRDP since February! And they've had my $3K deposit since January when I originally placed an order on a 2019 Super White TRD Pro.
Yeah right go Hawks. So annoyed they threw that away at home in the rain to a dome team playing without Brees . Good luck not paying the extra sales tax. Please do confirm 100% that is what happens whenever you are able to land it.

So annoyed that the Hawks kept giving the ball to Carson who slipped almost every time he touched the ball! Kamara would slip, but he'd still manage to get 5 yards or more! Super frustrating game to watch.

I'll let you guys know as soon as I get it. But, as others have mentioned here after my post - the tax when buying new in Washington is based on the city/county of where the dealer is located. If you go to the Foothills Toyota website and click on the 8.5% tax banner, it takes you to a landing page where there's a tax savings calculator.

Yup and why the problems? Seems Kamara didn't share Carson's difficulties handling the ball. miss BeastMode24 "all about that action boss" … alright I'll save my football rants for the 12thMan forum I suppose.

Ok so back on topic.... I (accountant if it matters) am pretty certain that legally the ultimate sales tax total is to be paid in WA based on the state rate + local rate where the home address of the purchaser is. When you buy out of state (I know from buying wife's rig in Bend,Ore) this happens correctly when you bring Ore sales paperwork to WA DMV to register the rig with WA license.

My guess at best if this is successful - it's because dealer isn't required by law to collect your local tax (vs. theirs) AND you aren't being audited by WADOR. Assuming the dealer has the "tax savings" propaganda on their site I would be really careful about how it reads. For instance, perhaps it's dealer's responsibility to assess the appropriate sales tax for the state and for their locality. In this case, it would not be illegal for them to promote that this is the total sales tax rate they charge you. In the case of a Wa dealer, they are also able to file for your license and so you don't need to do it yourself as with out-of-state purchase so perhaps there is loophole where the local sales tax differential is missed/not actively policed however that doesn't mean that you aren't supposed to pay the difference yourself by filing a use tax report (as someone else suggested in previous post). I do know that if you go to Oregon as countless WA residents do and buy shit (i.e. clothing, school supplies, etc.) you are supposed to file use tax report and pay WA tax on those "imported" goods - BUT nobody I have ever heard of actually does that and the WADOR is too busy crawling up the ass of businesses like mine with a microscope going after underpaid excise and use tax on that level so perhaps consumers are too numerous and/or yield is to low to make it worth their while.

Interesting test of this notion would be to directly ask dealer if what they charge you in sales tax is legally all that you are required to pay and see what they say to that. My guess is you get an I don't know or some other shifty non-committal answer.

Anyhow - just food for thought.

Cheers and best of luck whatever happens

JC

WA sales tax

It's based on origin of sales, that's the law. It only changes if something is delivered to your address from somewhere else in the state. Then the retailer must charge you the rate associated with your local tax rate. If you buy something, anything, you're charged the rate of the local retailer....the place you are at the time. I've gone through this before. You can look this all up somewhere online. Look up Destination based sales tax.
Cheers, G

At least they can prorate tax based on your trade in. I forget how that works exactly but they did that when we bought the Jeep. IIRC we paid tax on value over trade in value.

Then there's the RTA tax for Sound Transit... We're inside the zone by 1 block. That alone is $450 on my 2016 SR5 in the yearly registration. It's awful.

I have a deposit on an Army Green TRDP locally, quoted MSRP. Not Michael's. The truck is in Port, dealer has a VIN. I'm being told first week of October for delivery but my sales contact is transparent that they don't know exactly. I haven't requested VIN since the surprise RE the boards/cargo deck is interesting. He did say they've already received some new 4runners. Just not my TRDP yet Any day now I expect.

Awesome, thanks for checking! It is slightly disappointing, because if you're marketing a vehicle to travel off the beaten path, you don't want a street tire as your back up. Then again, (knocks on wood) I've run 5-6 sets of Nittos on my current and previous rigs, never had a flat! Mines on the boat! Same color you've got there. Should take delivery in 3-4 Weeks. Excited, congrats on the new rig!

Yes, this is true if you do trade, then you get taxed on the net purchase price. Assumption here is that you do better on what dealer gives you for trade plus tax differential (minus any less than obvious adjustment to your detriment they might make on another facet of the deal) than if you made effort to sell it yourself.

Again I am just super skeptical of anything a dealer offering or telling anyone that is not 100% designed to make the dealer more margin thus parting you with more of your hard earned cash. They are not your friend and have so many "shells" to move around on the table especially if there's a lease or dealer financing involved. Also you are in a compromised position on their turf under pressure making a huge decision that may not be 100% objective depending on who you are. I always feel like it is better to go in holding as many cards as possible and taking the trade out of it helps. But many people don't like to be bothered with finding someone to buy their rig and the dealer is more convenient.... convenience usually always comes at a price. It certainly doesn't hurt to get a trade estimate after all other details of the sale are 100% locked in and compare that with comps on private party value. Especially if you are paying cash or have your own financing AND are ready to say NO to any 2000 percent markup sucker bet bullshit the finance manager will throw your way (warranty, exterior/interior protection crap, etc.) makes it more difficult for the dealer to conceal or fenagle offsetting costs.

Good Luck

JC

PS - Also looks like @FZRunner is correct about destination-based sales tax. State doesn't care about the locality apparently within the state as WADOR still gets its same cut on the state portion regardless so you can save a bit buying outside of the major Puget Sound region counties.

Yeah, the trade-in tax benefit can tend to make the decision between private sale and trade-in a bit easier depending on what car you're trading in.

For example, since my GT350 was worth more than the 4Runner, I effectively had to pay zero tax on trade-in which allowed me to not have to go through the hassle of trying to find a buyer for a high horsepower rear wheel drive hot rod in the middle of winter in the PNW for $50k. Traded it in for $45k, but saved $5k in taxes so it was basically a wash between private sale and trade in.

Mind me asking where? I got the same story from my guy at the dealer “by the airport,” but it’s been radio silence since I was told to expect it first week in October. No VIN given to me like last time I ordered from them and no response when I told him I didn’t want any port extras. I’ll be in the area tomorrow so I’m going to drop in unannounced to hopefully get an update and a written trade in quote.

I can’t wait for this to be over. Not so much for the truck itself, I just can’t stand dealing with dealerships!

Eagle has landed!

Just got home about about 45 minutes ago. I've been waiting since January of this year for a 4R TRDP, and switched my reservation to the 2020 as soon as I heard about Army Green and CarPlay/Android Auto.

Big shout out to Jess at Foothills Toyota for securing my TRDP on your 1st allocation.

I'll post some better photos when I have more time.

Some initial impressions about the exhaust. I drove about 45 miles home from the dealership; there's a slight drone sound from the cat-back exhaust. Obviously it's more noticeable if you're accelerarting or going up hill. However, I wasn't annoyed and neither were my kids. I was driving mostly 65-75 on the way home.

As I mentioned in my previous posts about my deposit; I paid MSRP. Also, I was taxed at the lower 8.5% rate in Burlington, WA (Skagit County).

You beat me to it brotha, still waiting for mine. Expected delivery is next week, but it couldn't be any sooner.

Congrats!

Congrats! Enjoy that beauty.

How are the breaks? Someone mentioned that there is a big improvement.

That's awesome! I honestly think you are the first person I have seen that has taken delivery of the Army Green and posted pics. Looks so good. Congratulations! Mine is 2 weeks out.

That is wierd that they don't know when. My dealer sent me a screen shot with the vehicle's status (At Yard - Processing) and ETA (Oct 5 - Oct 9). He was actually hoping it might arrive sooner. But like you, no VIN provided. Not sure if the system is different here in Canada (Alberta).
