Seriously doubt the 20 will be wireless. BMW is one of the few offering it in their newer vehicles.
Btw, kenwood finally announced a new series of excelon systems that will be wireless. It’s what I’ve been waiting for.

that's great news. as of now, only Alpine and Pioneer made wireless carplay.

OP, I feel you. I just got mine too. While the Bluetooth and Navigation works fine, the Entune suite is all total garbage. Fortunately I don't care about most of the apps.
I wish we could upgrade the existing unit when they get Carplay. I wonder if it's just updating the unit, or there's more involved than that.

I mean, there are literally hundreds of thousands of them across the country that meet these exact specifications and people are more than happy to let them go for absurdly low prices. Shit, you could even take a modern drive train and slap it into them and still be under $10k invested. What's stopping all of you from buying them?
Then your "built not bought" bumper sticker that you slap on it can hold some real weight! Hell, you can put a few more punches on your man card that way to really feel superior to the wussy millenials and their doggone nanny state technobabble, I tell you hwat!

not in the US you can't.
Base model 4 runner is 36k on their site.
I'm talking about a brand new bare bones 4 runner or tacoma. Not a used 1985 Hilux.
I don't care if you want/buy a tech laden vehicle.
But when you go to add options to a base model 4runner and your options are chrome and black accents and red bolt on caliper covers...it's a bit wonky. It's a 4runner, not a Scion Xb. Why no rear e locker option? Why no low gear T case option? Why no non-screen option? Why no base model steel wheel option? Why no serious skidplate option? Why no manual trans option?
You know...the things that put the rugged Toyota name on the American map.
Just curious.

I did not know this and you may have just solved my problem! Will test out today after work. Right now, I push that button and get the Toyota voice recognition... if I can access Siri with "push & hold" then that's damn well good enough for me!

Trust me. I almost bought a Wrangler cause that's all that offers a manual trans anymore... but based on a previous Jeep experience and other horror stories I had to bail. I'll never look back - the week after I bought a 4Runner Jeep started recalling Wranglers for bad frame welds... no thanks.
To answer your question, the reason no one makes the car you described above is because it's 2019. We're literally in the FUTURE man! Everyone talks a big game but no one buys that stuff any more. At least, they certainly don't pay $40k for it. Toyota makes reliable and capable civilian cars and trucks... if you want all those fancy options, you can still get them! Just not from Toyota...

I have this issue too. I did try the reset of the system to no avail. I think it was pulling the fuse to the headunit for over 4 hours to completely reset it. I just have to turn my bluetooth off on my phone and turn it back on. I thought it was an issue with my 5S but then I got a X and same issue, just happens less now.

I don't want/need fancy options like Toyota offers.....(chrome accents and red bolt on caliper covers...WTF? That is not what put the rugged reliability of Toyota trucks/4runners on the map)
Don't make it $40k for a base.....how about 25k? Save the money spent on paying focus groups, designers, engineers, managers, assembly line steps, supplier development for all that non sense and pass the savings onto the customer.
You think they'd sell more trucks/4runners because of chrome exhaust tips or would they be better served to offer a wide variety of useful options and/or spend that budget on making the trucks even more reliable and competitive in the market?
Slapping TRD stickers on everything and focusing on appearance packages (TRD Pro Sequoia and LC200). Toyota has lost it's way, across the whole range.

I get it, you like simple, rugged stuff and you definitely don't want caliper covers. In 20 years you'll wish they still made cars with the simple things like wheels and engines... none of this fancy pantsy teleporting nonsense.
In 1996, a new base model 4runner (manual w/ 4wd) retailed for about $22000. Factor in inflation and you've got a $36000 value today for a near base model 4runner. Nothing has changed except that now the AC and radio are standard options.
The reason Toyota does what they do is because they are heavily invested in making a quality product that appeals to the masses... it wouldn't make sense for them to do anything different!
What's this thread about, anyways? Oh yeah! Thanks
@ TCLLC
, I now have access to Siri in the 4R. Much appreciated!

I don't care about Apple car play as I don't own apple products.
I do dislike that Sirius satellite radio is $20 a month after the 30 day trial. I enjoy listening to Howard Stern on my drive to and from work.
Oh well.
