Left Brake Light

Hey folks,

Asking a bit for myself but mostly for a coworker. A couple of months ago I lad my left brake light go out and not come back with a new bulb. I probed it with my continuity tester and was getting power to the fixture connector but not to the socket. Anyhow, while probing to figure out just where the problem was it came back and has been OK since. I never figured out why so just shrugged and hoped for the best.

Fast forward to this morning and I was following a coworker into the parking garage and noticed his was out (I think his is a 2016? Mine is a 2011). I told him and he told me this was the third time it's gone out in just a few months.

I reckon this can't be a coincidence - have others run into this? Anyone know a permanent fix?

Could be a bad connection and / or maybe some corrosion. I'll take the connections loose, clean the socket and a nice coating of dielectric grease on everything.

I haven't heard of much issues with the 2014+ assembly other than condensation. Regarding the 2010 assembly, mine would go out every 2 months. I got tired of fixing it and upgraded to the 2014+ assemblies.

The 2010 Left side connector needs to be bent back to the original position and cleaned up.

Take the bulb out and clean the contacts on the bulb assembly that make contact inside the housing. Then bend those contacts out a little more to make better contact. Ours would not work until we bent these out.

I ran into the same thing, brake light was out but bulb was good. It was the connection from the socket that the harness plugs into to the tail light housing itself. The housing has slightly deformed. I used it as an excuse to buy brand new OEM 14+ housings.
