Headers/y-pipe/exhaust
Like many of you I love my ‘18 trdorp but this little v6 is lacking some oomph. Does anyone have experience with making this little pig oink? Been looking at headers, cat backs, y pipes, something to bring this thing alive but not drone or anything obnoxious. Thanks

I installed a Borla catback 140379, a K&N intake, and a URD Y-pipe on my '13. I have to say I'm pretty happy with the sound now, and a mildly perceptable increase in power.

Suggestion: URD MAF Calibrator, aFe Momentum GT CAI, URD Y-pipe, and a side-exit cat-back of your choice. This will get you a more peppy drive, and more free-flowing exhaust.
Headers aren't worth the frustration. If you want more serious power, look into the superchargers available (Magnuson, URD, or Procharger).
You can do just the exhaust, but the intake really could use some help. Instead of the CAI & MAF Calibrator could try the Sprint Booster or something of the sort. I found the CAI & MAF Calibrator combined with 91+ octane and the exhaust gave better performance and mpg by leaning out the AFR more towards peak (14.7) than OEM.
FWIW, I ended up with the URD SC kit though.

2 words ... SUPER Charger
I have the URD Y-PIPE, TRD CAI, shortened factory exhaust w/ magnaflow muffler, pedal commander, and 4.88 gears on 35" Nittos ridge Grapplers.. And drive around in sport mode... And I still think I want to go with a supercharger when the wallet recuperates from the recent spendatures.

Supercharger is the way to go if you have 6-7K to spare
I'm quite happy with my AFE Momentum GT intake, URD MAF calibrator, TB Spacer and Borla Cat-Back exhaust. My truck gets up and goes and even chirps tire if I get on it too hard. I've been wanting to add the Y-Pipe, but haven't gotten around to it yet

Tried the catback exhaust, TRD CAI, Sprint booster, y pipe, and URD MAF calibrator
If you want a sensation of peppyness without $$$ then go for the Sprint booster alone
For actual mild performance boost, go y pipe, catbwvk exhaust, intake, and MAF calibrator.. this is what I run now.
For anything more than that either supercharge / regear or change the truck

Talk to Keith at Dirty Deeds Industries. He specializes in custom performance exhaust set ups with no drone for the Tundra and Tacoma. He sent me an email saying he has a custom performance exhaust available for the 4Runner.
His BA Muffler is considered one the best on the Tundra forums.
He can probably do other performance mods also.

You're paying a lot of money for an increase in dB. That's about it.
Some people have removed the catalyst with the URD kit for some meager gains.

On URD's site, they say the Y pipe isnt emmisions legal and not for on road use. Does it really make a huge difference? I have the S&B CAI and want to add the Y pipe, MAF, and a catback (can't decide which one).

In a free state without overlord inspections, it's a non-issue. The less cats the better.

Does the URD Y make it sound way louder/obnoxious?

The only significant HP gains supported by dyno testing I have read about for our 4runners is the supercharger.
I would not waste my money on anything else, though regearing can help performance if not actually increasing HP.
The last thing I want is more noise, I enjoy the outdoors, don't need to impress the easily-impressed anymore. I do hunt in mine, too. No CAIs or exhausts for me, especially when they add the same HP as a TRD oil cap. Bear in mind that they only really add power at WOT, at partial throttle, the stock setup breathes well enough.
Don't waste $2500 on 10 hp worth of intake, exhaust, and gadgets.
Get the blower.
