This comes with its own set of problems like bouncing filaments and the risk of having an ill-defined cutoff. Also, these lights won't burn ballasts twice a year because LEDs don't have any.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'll be dropping a grand on them either. I'm using LED drop-in bulbs on mine instead of a true retrofit as well.
I am not sure what kind of HID kits your running, but I been on the same HID ballasts since 2005 on my Acura RSX and 2012 on my Civic. No issues with my ballasts/bulbs. Bouncing filaments? You mean the bulbs moving around? I never had any of those issues. I been running the same brand ballasts for over a decade in multiple vehicles from the same company. The only issue I had was with some cheap ebay hid bulbs that i picked up for my company vehicle. But never with the ballasts itself. They are $10 ebay bulbs that lasts for about 1 year.

I'm not running HID, I have LED. This board is littered with posts about burning ballasts and headlight beams bouncing when driving over any imperfections in the road. I avoided HID specifically because I didn't want to risk having these headaches down the road. I also didn't want to drill holes in my dust caps.

Gotcha. Nevermind. Lol. I didn’t have to drill into my dust covers and I am running HIDS but it took a while to install it.

Maybe I'm tired, but why do we need to tap the mirror heater for the daytime running lights? do they come on when we heat the mirrors? Also when you tap a fuse, is the wire going to lease fuse box susceptible to water leaks?

Something else not widely advertised, if your running modified tail lights you might get hyper flash with the turn signals. XD, I've got the LED rear plate bulb and Morimoto fogs or my trailer lights... is that gonna be an issue, or any auxiliary LED lighting I've added?

looking at the specs, these have built in resistors.

XenonDepot posted on Instagram that they'll be taking orders July 29th. Wonder if there will be a T4R group buy or discount at all?

Whether or not its worth the price, is up to the end user.

I personally like the look, but I"m not sure I like it enough to spend 1200 on it either.

Luckily, since its not available yet, i have plenty of time to decide.
This is pretty much the review I have after 5K miles with these.

Coming from stock headlights these will be a big improvement. The cut off and the updated look is also a huge plus. Looks are subjective. I like them a lot and I can also see why someone would not like them. What wins me over is the quality of this style headlight. We have all seen the cheap aftermarket headlights and these do not look like those. Morimoto has done a great job making a quality part.

If you are like me, coming from a drop in HID kit, you will notice these are not as bright. The light is better controlled than a drop in HID kit. HID kits really spread the light out and can result in people flashing you with their high beams if not properly aimed.

I had a 4800k HID kit because that range is more of the OEM style. I'm not a fan of the blue(er) lights like 6000k, which these close resemble.

I am not sure if I agree with "worse than drop in LED kit" since the low beams have 4 individual LEDs (not sure what the rating or details are on these but you get what I mean). Also, I am sure the light pattern is much better than the glare drop in LEDs cause.

At the end of the day you have to decide what you are looking for. Do you want the brightest light output possible at the most competitive price? I'd recommend the Xenon Depot 4800K HID drop ins.

If you are looking for a more modern design with better light output and control over the OEM setup as well as quality, then get these!

If you are going for just looks and quality, well these headlights are for you.

Here are some night shots...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, @dot_tom .

I do wish these were a little closer to 4300-4800k, as I believe that is the highest output. Having 4300k HIDs right now (in stock projectors, but aimed down) I really would like at least equal output.

They do look sharp though, and go a long way towards updating the front end.

Selling me hard on these! The light output looks substantially better than the OEM halogens and I refuse to do drop-in HIDs as I've been blinded by another 4Runner running them - not cool.

There are so many variables that could have happened when you were blinded by another 4Runner with HID's. Chances are they didn't bother to adjust their headlights.

PM sent!

I have a buddy telling me he can get a substantial discount off MSRP at 10 sets. Not sure if that’s better or worse than the discount code.

...but we need ten guys so I’m told and we’ll be well under $1000.

The discount sounds great! But even without it, I’m in.
