Seriously I can see just fine with the new headlights. I did have to run the fogs the other night while driving on a mountain road full of deer. Other than that everything is good.

After driving with these lights for a couple weeks now I wanted to give some insights from a couple different perspectives. First off I really love these lights and I came from a Morimoto 50w HID drop in kit. I believe the HID did throw more light and had more overall light output, but you can not beat the beam pattern and clean, crisp cutoffs from the XB headlights. One of the biggest things that drew me to these was the great DRL and switchback turn signal that I have setup in the sequential mode. I was previously running LED signals so I already had resistors installed on the factory harness so I did not experience an hyper blinking as some others did. These turn signals/DRL are bright as hell and I love them. Ultimately I got these though because of the black out appearance to match the rest of my 4runner. They also match my Morimoto XB fogs perfectly. The low beams, when adjusted properly are very good and the high beams are great too. As some others have said, these lights needed to be adjusted up out of the box. Now to address the biggest complaint about these, the side cutoff. I can see why some would find this to be unacceptable or even annoying but IMHO I dont think it is that terrible. I drive mostly very dark country roads about 80% of the time and this is just not an issue for me. I find myself regularly using my fogs which helps but I dont NEED to use them. I never used them with my HID setup just because they were drowned out by the erratic bright beam pattern of the HIDs. I am attaching some Low beam, High beam and low beams with fogs comparison pictures from the HIDs to the XB LED headlights. Overall I am very happy and I think Morimoto did a great job with these. Can me get some XB taillights now!?

Did a great job of comparison photos.

You can definitely tell where the area that people are complaining about is. However, I'd bet that area is also not very well lit from the OEM halogens, so that's probably why people like myself and others that came from non-HID don't have the same concerns.

But these obviously have plenty of spread even if it's not as much as the drop-in HIDs. Unless you weren't paying attention to when you were driving up to an intersection and only look to the side when you're nearly on top of the intersection, it's basically well lit from 15 feet back or more.

The "missing" light in front of the xb headlights is not able to photograph with a cell phone camera. By the eye it's black, dark nothing to see. With the hid and stock halagen that area is dark but there is enough "cast" lighting to see safely while going around dark corners.
Just hope no one blows a tire while driving over the curb they didn't see

This is true, and like others have said, is corrected by using your fogs. I dont think running your fogs most of the time is that big of an inconvenience. Everybody has their own preference and these headlights will not make everyone happy, but I can strongly reccomend them.

No offense but people that drive with fogs on all the time are typically dumb not remembering they are on, or on an ego trip thinking they look so damn cool, might as well put spinners on the runner for more attention

I bit my tongue for a while in order to not get sucked into a "it is OK to run fogs all the time" but aside from annoying other drivers, they are also bad for the driver.

Fog lights are designed to be used at low speed in weather conditions where visibility is under 50 yards or so.

Your headlights leave a dark area directly in front of your car intended to draw your eyes farther down the road. In poor weather and at lower speeds, you want to illuminate that area AND to light up the edges of the road.

The way the brain processes light is to draw the eyes to the bright areas - so if the area in front of the car is dark, then you look further down the road. If that area is illuminated, then that's where you're going to look.

Not only can't you control that, but it is also something that doesn't always register consciously. Most people will say "nawww, not me, I can see down the road" but tests show otherwise. Link is a pdf

I dont understand how properly aimed fog lights affect other drivers? I dont disagree that they are not intended to be used all the time, but unless you are using some ridiculously bright "off road use only" fog lights, then other drivers should not be the least bit affected. At least not any more than HIDs in halogen optic headlights. I pass maybe 3 vehicles on country roads on my way to work, I highly doubt they are affected by my fog lights.

it's not that running your fogs is an inconvenience, just sucks you need supplemental lighting after spending so much on upgraded headlights

IMHO I dont need them at all, as I mentioned before. It was merely a suggestion for those who were not happy with "side cutoff issue". The side cutoff really doesn't bother me at all.

This is also why most cars are set up to turn the fogs off when the high-beams are activated.
