As far as I know, there shouldnít be a case where I would have to raise it higher. I played it safe at 2.75 turns, did you set yours at the max 3?
I felt the same about needing to adjust it upward to the max three turns just to match the stock height that I had marked off on the garage wall. After a couple of days I adjusted it down slightly. It sits somewhere between 2.75 and 3 turns right now.

The number of turns to get back to stock height was pretty close to three turns as marked on the wall at the set distance of 25 ft prior to uninstalling the stock headlights. I wouldn't say the number of turns was the primary measurement mechanism used to aim but more of something noted in the back of our mind as counting the number of turns is needed since the instructions say not to exceed three.

My guess is the aiming mechanism consists of two sections, and going to extremes in either direction (not sure which) would allow the two sections to completely disengage from one another rendering the mechanism useless. Hope that Morimoto factored in some leeway before that actually happens but I'm not trying to find out how many turns is actually needed before that disengagement occurs.

I hope mine is a isolated case. The vendor who I purchased these from said they havenít seen this in the 4Runner XBs as theyíre very solid, but with anything mass produced you just never know.

Now waiting to hear back from Morimoto as Iíve been told they handle requests for XBs directly.

I hadn't looked closely at my wife's lights, both her passenger and driver's side have the LEDs out at the same place the LED is flickering in mine. That's 3 out of 4 headlights in our household - appears to be a clear manufacturer issue.

I'm assuming the one of mine that is flickering will die shortly too - we've had her lights in since November, mine since early January.

No news update:

The supplier for my wife’s lights has reached out to Morimoto 2x and hasn’t received a response from them. He said he has another customer that has the same LED location failure in his pair.

I’ve contacted Xenon Depot 3x now via email and phone attempt about my lights, and haven’t received any type of response back. Xenon Depot is garbage. I’m planning to dispute the charge with my CC company and ship the lights back to them after the charge is successfully reversed.

I had Kustom54 lights on a previous 4Runner, there were a few issues with those and Pavel took care of them within hours. I will be going back to him.

Sorry to hear that. I have already sent mine back to Morimoto which they should be receiving today. They confirmed that they will be sending out a brand new set to me since these headlights can't really be serviced.

When did you purchase your lights from XD? Are these part of initial 50 units?

Mine are coming from the latest batch from Morimoto next week.

I did not purchase mine from XD, and they were not the initial early run of 50 units.

I purchased these when they were available to the public from Lightwerkz.

Thanks for the info. Did you deal directly with Morimoto or did you go through your distributor?

Iíve tried to connect with Morimoto too and havenít received a response.

Neither my wifeís pair or my pair were part of the initial 50 unit run, both were ďfull productionĒ units.

I contacted Morimoto directly, but didnít get a response back from them until I had Lightwerkz ping them directly with my ticket #.

How many of you have reported this as a safety issue to NHTSA? Y'all might get a quicker response if the manufacturer of illegal lighting realizes that they are on the radar of the regulators and may be subject to really hefty fines.

FMVSS 108 is 731 pages long. You care to drill down a little deeper in your assertion?

Firstly, we recognize that itís taken us much longer than it should have to respond to your email and we are so embarrassed. Making our customers wait a few weeks is unacceptable, and we are truly sorry.

Weíve been plowing through backlog from the holiday, a skeleton crew here at the office thanks to flu season, and hordes of enthusiasts flocking our way for information on lighting upgrades during the darkest time of the year. None of this should be your problem, but the truth is that weíve had trouble keeping up. Among recruiting more people to join our team, Weíre committed to making some changes for the future.

Can you PM me your order number from us and email address? We'll get this taken care of ASAP!

Sorry!
