Posted this in another thread "quick question, on a few sites with part# 47-284142 they are listed for FJs but not 4th gen 4runner. This part number is the exact same as # 47-260153 except springs are 650lbs instead of 600lbs correct?"

Hi Battle Born
I just bought my first 4Runner a few days ago. A 2016 TRD Pro. Had it inspected and my mechanic said it needs new front shock. Are these the correct shocks for it?
Bilstein B8 5100 Series Shocks 24-196499
Thanks!

Would these be available in kit form with the 6112 shocks or do I have to order the standard 6112 and toss the 600 lb springs?
Also do you guys offer these assembled with new top seats?

I got the normal spring rate 6112s,
best prices, great service, quick delivery.
I don't think I will install them till fall, but that's a different story, LOL.

Are we sure the regular 6112 springs are 600lb? I had 586lb Dobinsons springs on stock shocks and I have been paying very close attention to every facet of performance since I bought the 4R 26,000 miles ago. We have done plenty of offroading in all sorts of terrain also.
Here are reasons I wonder, admittedly some based on unusually punishing for suspensions terrain. I am talking undulating volcanic ash terrain, where the stock suspension can manage 5-8 mph. The surface is like a sea with waves of different sizes, shapes, and widths. And these are the normal trails/roads, not what the OHVs drive.
1/ I cannot count the NEAR-bottom out events. Does this mean a softer spring and a powerful shock (which it is) that also has an internal bump stop? It felt like the shock was working overtime whereas the spring was casually answering work emails while watching a football game.
2/ In contrast to the front, the Icon 2.0 rear shocks and 1" Eibach spring felt like working in concert. Much more predictable, no near misses, only felt like they might bottom out a couple times.
3/ Over normal/standard rough forest road terrain, the 6112 did very well to prevent bottoming out. However, the front felt bouncier than I thought it would be based on my Dobinsons front coils experience.
4/ Set on 2 and 4, the 6112s gave me 0.8-0.9 in of lift and not 1.2 (no permanent front weight per se; 250lb from skids and sliders overall). The 586lb Dobinsons gave me 1 and 1/8.
5/ About 2-3,000 miles ago, my two older Wildpeaks suddenly started to ride rougher than before, as they reached 7/32nds. These are on the front. Installing the 6112 immediately restored the bit of ride quality that was lost. Softer spring rate?
6/ The common industry wisdom is that you want the softest spring that will do the job with a very powerful shock that will do the heavy lifting. This feels to be the case here.
So, is the 6112 spring really 600lb?
Does the 6112 shock have a really good internal bump stop or whatever the correct technical term is?
If the answers are "yes" and "no," then what explains what I observed? Can the Dobinsons rate be actually higher (guess I know whom to ask about that!).
Otherwise, the 6112 front and Icon 2.0 provide amazing control off road, as expected.

Let's verify my part numbers.
My springs are stamped z005b50. This is the FJ number but the two springs are supposed to be the same. So it should not matter?
The big box number is the correct one that ends in 768. It is not the FJ part number so that checks out.
The sticker on the shock is: 24-259118. Seems right, too.
So if there is no mixup, then this makes it MORE interesting.
If the Dobinsons and Billstein spring are the same rate, then the very different feel has to be entirely a function of the shock. So the stiffer feel of the Dobs coming from the weak stock shock and the very soft feel of the Billstein coming from the powerful 6112 shock that controls the spring with ease. But I guess I like a bit of a stiffer spring
What do you think,
@ Battle

I have a similar setup 6112s up front and Icon 2.0s in the rear with a stock spring and 1.5 spacer... I havent experienced a "bottoming out" with my 4Runner in the front but in the rear it has a couple of times... so I upgraded my rear spring to a Dobinsons 3" variable rate spring which I havent tested off road yet.
How fast are you going when you bottom out?
I have had Bilsteins on a few vehicles and it had a great ride both on and off-road. I would like to try Fox, King, Icon to see if they are better but I am not in a hurry.

I did not bottom out, just felt like I am just about to...and then did not.
When the front skid touched the cinders I was at 17. But that's Cinder Hills. It is unique. Stock, I would have been doing 5-7 on that spot.
The main loop that is used to get to Double Crater is much better. It only has one short section that is like this. The back loop, on the east side, was like this for the entire 11 miles.
I saw two UTVs go really fast on one of the big open areas. There was an XJ after them, decent speed, not as fast, quite bouncy but not awful. I am curious what suspension it was running.
I am not into sports and that terrain answered for me the question of why small sporty UTVs run giant for their size shocks and springs. Watching them flat vs the bouncing behind them XJ really drove the point home.
EDIT: as for the rear, thank you very much for that info. So the Icons were not enough to compensate for the awful stock springs? Good to know. I wonder if the stock rate Billstein 1.5" springs would. The theory is softest spring with powerful shock but maybe that means a 2.5 shock which would not work with the 6112s because one should not run a larger shaft in the rear. Or so I was told by the owner of Radflo. I really wanted their 2.5 rear. The 6112 probably has an awkward shaft because it was designed for heavy trucks and only accidentally became a performance shock, too.

@ MAST4R
I've been following your issues. Just curious have you upgraded the stock bump stops or have any intentions to.
I would also suggest you call Bilsteins to confirm the specs on the two different model springs to see what are the specs difference.
I believe Bilsteins have two 6112 kits that would fit our T4R one model one for FJ and one for 4runner/GX and my assumpsution is the springs may be labeled differently for each kit.
I sold
@ Bayou_Pro
my 6112 model springs labeled
E4-FD1-Y005B29
from the 4runner/GX 6112 kit, bought from a local GX owner. I ended using 650# King since I added the C4 lopro and winch and upgraded to some $20 Engery Suspension bumpstops I accidentally discovered that fits.
Good luck I hope you tackle this issue and fine tune your 4Runner to your liking.
