Love the idea. The Wheeler's one does seem like a better option - it costs less, it's thicker gauge material (1/4" instead of 3/16") and is more functional.

HOWEVER, if you have your spare in the stock location, it interferes with it. In order to prevent that, you need to use the first hole and that means that the skid sticks too far back. I considered cutting the plate to prevent it from hitting the spare, but decided to just return the product instead.
The reality is that the recovery insert with the shackle removed is plenty enough protection when going straight. Since it sticks a little behind the hitch, it takes the hit and leaves the hitch unscathed.
So I am simply using the insert and with good success.

I have the Body Armor hitch plate and NOPE I did not have any issues with it. The hitch pin fit in the middle hole without any issues and that's with 33" tires and KDSS.

Maybe it was the middle, but it was not the one I wanted. It stuck too far out.

Body Armor hitch plate seems to have much more coverage and utility for 1/3 less, but that remains to be seen as I can't find a pic with the welds and reinforcement. I must admit the TC welds aint no joke!

Here's the pics of the Body Armor hitch skid I have, as you can see it fits perfectly fine with 33" tires and KDSS:

I just bought one. I like the fact that it sticks out some, keeps people off your bumper.
So with the 33" spare tire, does the tire rub still or does the skid plate keep the tire from rubbing when at a high departure angle?

I have one that cost $40 and I move it between my LJ and 4Runner and Mule. You just drill holes that put it perfect for each truck......10 minutes. $149 is just too pricey for what it is even as a fan of Chaos.

With as far as it sticks out it's pretty useless for off-road use. You're killing a lot of your departure angle. I had one and don't use it for the same reason, it sticks too damn far out to actually make it useful.

A new bolt on hitch plate, 51909-35011, is ~$170 and can take a lot of abuse in stock form.
Solutions in search of problems?
Paint protects the aluminum body
Clear coat protects the paint
Wax protects the clear coat
What protects the wax??? Time for a wrap?

Yup. That's why I returned the one I bought. It is a good step though, so there is that.
In fairness, the plate underneath can be cut. That would allow using the best available hole. But I did not want to bother and the hitch recovery insert sans the shackle has served me well. Notably, it took a lot of heat on the big drop on Fins & Things, the one where "everyone" scrapes on the south loop. The new JLU Rubicon in front of me lost some paint from the red recovery hook. I just scraped the insert.
