Yeah, the stock trailer hitch can take plenty of abuse and then just touch it up with paint if it starts to rust...or don't. It will be fine either way.

Move along then, it's not for everyone
We've found it to be very functional on our rides. It's protected the hitch, safety chain tabs, and wiring

It's not dumb......it has merit. I suggest it get a extension of the rear most portion upward farther, a little more width and a price of $75 and call it ''new and improved''!

The cost of a OEM hitch receiver and bracket is around $400. Protecting it with this product would cost $150.
It may be worth it for some, but not for me.

I was thinking about getting something like this. Just FYI, there are plenty of skid hitches out there already. Some are like $50

We don't plan on adding a D-ring mount due to liability reasons. Thanks for checking with us

I don't use mine for offloading, its to keep parallel parking Aholes from hitting my bumper...

Maybe this is the one:

...Even comes in red, and as someone mentioned, with a bottle opener... AND, intended purpose does list recovery point...

Warning, thread hijack for Total Chaos lower A-Arm skids
I had a set of TC's lower A-Arm skids on my 2005 and pulled them off before selling that 4Runner.
I finally got under my 2018 and checked for fit and all I need are longer bolts (and drilling the one hole to 3/8") The 5th Gen's lower A-arms appear to have the same dimensions as a 4th Gen except for height or "thickness".
I hope to purchase new bolts today and complete the install.
Why doesn't TC list the existing 2003 - 2010 skids as being compatible with 5th Gen 4runners?
