A different sort of engine/trans noise?

I had the truck at the dealer today for my 60k mi. oil change, diffs and transfer case fluid change. I also tried to get them to diagnose this strange noise that doesn't occur all the time and of course they couldn't replicate it. It's a staccato, hollow, tinny sound that happens at normal operating temps between 2000-3000 RPM when in third gear and only under load, 1/3 to 1/2 throttle application. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all. Putting the truck into 4H does not make the noise go away.

I'm thinking it's something in the trans but hard to tell.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Ok. I can say for sure that the noise is not normal, but that it's not super pronounced in the videos. I'll try again the next time it happens.

Buy a pair of cheap frs radios. Use zip ties, tape, etc to transmit on one. Then tie the transmit one in various places on the under carriage. Keep moving until the noise is isolated.

Wasn't there a 5th gen bearing problem on/at the front axle area?

Will pick up some radios and see if that works.

There is a known front diff needle bearing issue but that’s normally quieted by shifting into 4H while driving. This noise can be present in 2H or 4H.

Sounds to me more like there is something loose in the cabin that is resonating with the vibration produced at that RPM/speed.

That's possible I suppose-I'll take a look to see if anything's loose in that area.
