Turns out I've got both a gen2 raptor and a gen5 4runner...
I just bought the 4runner and had been considering getting a mid-size pickup, 4runner or Wrangler to add to the raptor.
The reason I wanted something in addition to the Raptor is that it's very wide and the thing is just hard to park and live with in the SF bay area (unless you don't care about door dings). There are also lots of sierra trails I've shied away from due to the width of the thing.
I also have a dirt bike to haul, so that is a consideration. I decided not to get another pickup though, just because I can haul a dirt bike in the Raptor and it seemed a bit redundant
So I wanted something that fits down Jeep trails and is easy to use daily. Honestly I'm not sure I think maybe I should have gotten the wrangler to really max out my range of trails but the JL is $$$ and I'm a big guy and couldn't get comfortable in it. I'm hoping the 4runner will be off-road worthy 'enough' to fill in the trails I've avoided in the Raptor and otherwise the 4runner is comfy, and should be a great daily drive
The one thing that you just can't duplicate or replace with the 4runner/tacoma/wrangler vs the raptor is the power. The drivetrain with 450hp and the 10 speed auto is super powerful. The thing is darn fast on 35s and still gets of 20mpg
So for me, the 4runner isn't a replacement for the Raptor but between the 2 I think I can comfortably do most everything I want to. Really the Raptor would be fine on it's own since it's super versatile - if I didn't live in the bay area I probably would be ok to just have the raptor.
BTW - I would add the Raptor doesn't have huge towing/capacity for a 1/2 ton, but it's still way more than a 4runner or Tacoma. Tows 8500lbs w/ oem springs. I will agree though the high speed off road handling suffers a bit if there is much weight on the back with stock springs (can always upgrade to Deavers but modding a Raptor is $$$$)

Ford Ranger Raptor
An aftermarket shop is going to offer a Ranger in the Raptor category. The 2019 Hennessey VelociRaptor upgrades for the 2019 Ford Ranger truck
Hennessey VelociRaptor Ranger Debuts With 350 HP, Six-Inch Lift
It could be a more efficient option to the F-150 based Raptor.
For hauling dirt bikes with the 4Runner you have already, consider getting a cargo trailer.

Read online the many accounts of John Hennessys wonderful customer service and various lawsuits against him.
Will give you an entertaining several hours sifting through it all

I would personally stay with the set up you have now if you plan on keeping the vehicle long term. If you buy a used Ford Raptor you may have to start making repairs to it not long after buying depending on the mileage. The 4runner would definitely be the better choice in the long run.
If you are just planning on keeping the 4runner or Raptor just for a short time then the reliability advantage Toyota has over Ford doesn't matter.

It seems like you’re lusting for the Raptor but I really believe you’ll miss the Runner because of its versatility and reliability.
Nothing will quell your Raptor lust except buying one. So do it. I’m sure you’ll be able to find a Runner when the time comes.

Generally I would agree… but I have a friend with 3 trucks and it makes a valid argument for each one of them.
2500HD Diesel for towing & drives like crap without a load on it.
Built Tacoma for wheeling, reduced load springs in the rear, cant carry much weight anymore.
And a long bed 2WD tundra as a work horse beater for “doing stuff” and as his daily diver.

So, just to make sure this gets completely off topic, my buddy is picking up an expedition and we were looking to do exactly that, “raptorize” it. Apparently the front ends on the Expo’s are different, can’t even find castor corrected UCA’s for them. He’s limited to a Rancho lift strut or spacers.
OP, I’d just keep your current setup, but if you’re not happy with it then by all means! Gotta be happy with what you drive, however logical/illogical it may seem.

I'd keep the set up you have. Seems like the best of both worlds for what you do. The 4Runner is way better for most road trips and camping due to all the interior space. Maybe put some TLC into that Tundra with a lift and new wheels/tires.

haha. my garage has the mini fluorescent ones still.
Any half ton truck bed won't fit an 8' unless its a long bed anyways. crew cab long bed f150's are RAD IMO.

I concure. Well ... actually I prefer the long hood short deck look. Raptors have a 5.5” bed. They’re still kool, though. HAH! We be gettin’ off the subject, but we’re havin’ Fun.

I don't think the Raptor competes wirh 4Runner/Wrangler at all. They are completely different vehicles.
If you like the Raptor then maybe consider a Powerwagon. The Powerwagon is almost as powerful and more off-road capable. 14.5 inches of ground clearance stock! Solid axles. Better approach/departure angles. 10,000 lbs towing. Factory winch. Disconnecting swaybars. If I wanted a pickup to go off-road (which I didn't) I'd get a Powerwagon.

Having test drove a Raptor… I don’t think I would actually want to daily drive it living in the city. It’s such a big vehicle that it even makes my 2004 Silverado 1500 feel dainty in comparison. I know you can get used to driving the size but it’s still somewhat limiting in its own way.
The agility of the 4Runners overall size both on and off-road is something I value very much. I would love the Raptor as a “weekend” truck since I do like getting out to the open desert, and I feel that’s where it really shines, but for the money I can just get a dedicated OHV off-road toy instead.
You have a good diversity of vehical... I rather have than than just 1 fancy truck.

I have both, 11 trail and 14 roush raptor. Wife dives the 4r. Consider them some of the best 4x4 s available but they are totally different.
The raptor is a power house and owns the highway. Super fast. Serious pain to drive around town.
