90% of the off road SUV's out there have a hatch that prohibits rear entry. Or at the very least, makes it almost unusable. The side entries were then final decision.

Having the rainfly will be huge for ventilation during downpours.

I'll do my best to post up more photos in this thread as we go through in-the-field testing.

Man I've been searching and waiting for a sub 6" closed RTT so I can keep it on my roof and drive out of the garage. If you end up making these for anyone else please let me know.

Not trying to thread jack, but can somebody tell me how the photos are posted? I'm not seeing them and this will help me troubleshoot.

this is really cool. Great job!

I saw a jeep with a RTT that looked to be at least 16-18" deep on it the other day, and it looked totally ridiculous. It would take a team to remove it, and i'm sure it's going to rot up there.

This is the first RTT that I've seen that looks like something I'd be interested in taking through the back country. Very slick design.

Looking forward to some more photos and a test trip.

@Terrapod - just to clarify: are you planning on making these available for anybody who wants to buy one if you are satisfied with performance? I have a Tepui still in the box, and I may not even open it if I might be able to get my hands on one of these (I'm also 6-6, and my wife is 5-11). If so, any clue what the price range might be? Looks great!

Imgur.

This RTT is really promising, I think I can agree with many other people here when I say that daily driving with a RTT between weekends looks stupid and kills efficiency. It certainly gives hope that other companies will get on board with foam/fiberglass/aluminum RTT's and make them slimmer so they blend right in.

I like it… a lot.

I also considered the RTT route, but the height in a standard garage and the need to remove it killed it for me. If this thing fits into a standard height garage, with a typical height lift, you might have the market cornered.

Also… threads like this made me wish I had more engineering and design background.

I am presently researching and gathering pricing for doing allotments of 5 at a time. That said - sewing is the b*tch. It sucks...and I don't want to do it.

I am trying to get someone in line that could knock out the fabric for me to install. If that happens - killer.

The timetable is big right now. The reason is simple - There will be 3 beta's in the field this year. All going on trips. Two of my friends have offered to test for me - knowing full well that something could potentially fail.

I will not sacrifice safety and quality for a buck. Far too many products out there that are being rushed to market. Something being put on a vehicle needs proper testing. Period.

Hang tight. Let's see how things shake out.

That's a good point. How do you get in the side? Ladder as well? And how is that integrated?

It's a roof top tent. You get in via a collapsible ladder.

The Fiberglas shell one in the small size is $2600, the carbon fiber one is $4800. I presume your design would cost a little bit less.

At the moment, it's a hand-made, custom one-of-a-kind roof top tent vs all those others that are manufactured.
