Hey everyone!
The RTTx tent was born right here on T4R. And we could use your help to spread the word! Even if you're not in the market for a tent, please consider one of our other merch items. Every little bit will help us get up to speed that much faster. (BTW - the Mag-Coozie is freakin awesome. Easily my favorite thing.)
We are truly wanting to bring high-quality USA made gear to the industry. We deserve quality gear!!
Go here! Terrapod RTTx - Extreme Series Vehicle Roof Tent by Chad Austin — Kickstarter

Mesh Question.
Chad,
I sent you this question through the Kickstarter after I ordered, but figured those following along here might be curious as well. Can you give some more details about the two mesh options? What are the differences/benefits between the two? I live in Colorado, and camp mostly here and west. Not a huge bug problem most days. Just curious as to which would be best. Thanks, and can’t wait to get my tent!

HD Standard Mesh - the usual open mesh, good for air-flow and keeping the usual bugs out.
HD No-see-um Mesh - Primary need for this is beach camping and adventuring in northern territories where the nasty, tiny biting insects roam. Slight reduction in air-flow, but keeps those tiny biting insects out.
Every customer has the option for either at no additional cost.

Kickstarter Update: Don't Wait! The Introductory price is only for the First Edition Tents.
Only 12 units remain!
A reminder - we are using Kickstarter to jumpstart marketing to build awareness for Terrapod. That's pretty much it. All parts and materials are in within the next week and we will be starting production. So...the sooner we hit our goal, the sooner we ship tents.
Side note - a reminder, we can only ship to continental US and Canada at this time only. Thank you to all from overseas who have expressed interest. Once we get up to speed, we can determine the best international shipping. TY

For those who have asked regarding standard 7 foot Garage doors - Here you go.
Details as shown:
1) Vehicle details: 2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail with a 3.5" lift, 275/70/17 tires
2) Terrapod RTTx Tent with Rhino-Rack Backbone mount.
3) Garage door is a standard 2 car 7 foot tall garage door.
The Rhino-Rack Backbone as a direct mount for the RTTx provides not only the best mounting option, it allows the vehicle to retain the proper aerodynamic airflow over the roof.
Only 12 left on the Kickstarter First Editions. Get your's before it's gone!

2 questions.
1) On my 3rd gen 4runner I currently have a tubular style roof rack. What would be a good low profile replacemanent to use with the Terrapod RTTX?
2) I currently own an exped megamat, it is 77.5 x 52 inches as listed on their website. Given these dimensions, I assume I can use this mattress in your RTT?
Thank you.

Answers:
1) Given the age of the 3rd Gen, your tubular rack might be the best option. That said, virtually any rack will work. Not sure Rhino-Rack has options for the the 3rd Gen 4runner.
2) The Megamat can work - however...one of our testers used that mat and it does take quite a bit more effort to fully deflate it for stowage. We recommend the 7.5 thickness for mattresses.
Hope that helps!

I have the southern style offroad roof rack, similar to the prinsu rack. Will this RTT mount to it? And if so, will it be low enough of a profile to fit into a standard size garage?

There's a lot of factors to consider.
How tall the lift? What size tires? How tall is ______Rack?
Very sorry...I cannot answer your question without all the details. Every rack and setup is slightly different.
Example:
Terrapod RTTx tent
Rhino-Rack Backbone mounts
2016 4runner Trail
275/70 tires
3.5" lift
This is a standard 7' Garage door. The truck / tent has 1" to spare.

Fair enough. Would the tent sit flush on the crossbars on this type of roof rack or would it need a mounting system that lifts the tent above the cross bars?

Actually the crossbars are required on the tent. The rack would tie to those, because the tent width is 54".
The Prinsu, Victory, Southern Style...brackets.

Do you have any photos on the mounting system for this time of roof rack?
