New KO2 285/70/17 with UCA rub

I just installed a new set of KO2 285/70/17/C on VTX wheels (17X8.5 -10 6X139.7 106.1). I can hear rubbing when i back out of the driveway but i thought it was a body rub. When i took a gander i noticed the UCA had some "clean" rub marks. I planned on taking a heat gun to the wheel well but i don't know how to resolve the UCA issue. I have Fox 2.0 coil-overs in the front set @2".

Can anyone tell me what options i have, other than returning the tires (discount tire)? Would an alignment help?

Any tips or advice are appreciated. Thanks.

BTW - i love the new tires.

that's odd, with those neg. offset wheels, you should have plenty of clearance at the UCA. Have someone verify that it is rubbing on the UCA when you turn the wheel before you do anything drastic.

Is all the dust fresh or is it possible that the installer pushed the tire up against the UCA as he mounted the wheel. It looks like a stamp of tire tread vs actual rubbing which would be more of a smear.

If it ends up not being this, new UCAs would alleviate the issue.
JBA's Std High Caster UCAs are great, easy to install and maintain.

You make a good point. The tires were installed last tuesday and i went wheeling on the following saturday. It make sense to me that the installer hit the UCA during installation, the lines on the left are pretty sharp. i would expect a smudging rub, plus there are no rub marks on the passenger UCA.
I will have a buddy watch the tire as i move it back and forth to see it it makes contact with the UCA. This would be the best case scenario!

Eventually, i will upgrade the UCA's.

Thanks.

@SoCalRunner you can always install spacers and see if it goes away. Of course, spacers will push the wheel away from the uca, but closer to the fenders and body mounts.

OP, make sure the rub isn't on your body mount before going further. As long as those wheels have the proper back spacing (4.5"), they shouldn't rub the UCA with that tire size. It's very possible you could rub the body mount or rear fender liner somewhere, especially in reverse with the wheel turned.

I think you are good man! Your tires may be rubbing somewhere, but its not the UCA! From the looks of it, its not a "rub" on the UCA, especially since you are moving when you hear the rubbing. I say that because the mark would look totally different if you were rubbing the UCA's while moving! Would be more of a scuff mark! Good Luck!

Any Update

Any update on this? I am about to install 285/70/17 on my 02' and am worried about rubbing on the UCA. I saw a 3rd gen at the lake the other day with the same wheels as me and 285/70 K02s and it looked like they had rubbing on their UCA.

might be an option, Bora makes some .75" wheel spacers to help with clearance issues like these. I had to get a pair recently for my 1st gen Tacoma getting newly used 4Runner TRD Off Road wheels. It doesn't look like much poke at all and almost matches the rears when looking from the back.

OP, put masking tape where you think it's rubbing and then make it rub.
