Honestly the Touring is great, still quiet at idle but gives a nice throaty sound when you give throttle, I can hear it in the cabin but there is zero drone. I love it

Getting this installed as I type this, will test in a couple hours and let everyone know initial thoughts.

My assumption also is I need to give it a couple hundred miles to break in no matter how it sounds today.

So, like I said above it was installed a couple hours ago and I actually drove to another city on the interstate since my wife and kids are out of town to break it in. Like someone said earlier in the thread it's deeper and throatier than the original exhaust. my observations:
1. Definitely more sound in the cabin when taking off.
2. No drone I detected.
3. Interstate on cruise control on a normal grade road it sounds like the factory exhaust.
4. Interstate with slight gas downshifting lightly really brings out the sound.
5. Flooring it brings out initial sound then all the normal engine noise completely overpowers it and it sounds like the normal exhaust.

The sweet spot with it seems to be light acceleration from pretty much every way I tested it. The initial 15 mile ride to a gun store I could really notice it when accelerating and going up grades. On the way home I called my Dad and it disappeared in the background on me. Didn't seem to interfere with the radio at all. Sounded really good to me with all the windows down.

I got the bright idea to do voice notes so I have some absolutely horrible clips on the interstate, and a few in my neighborhood going from stop signs to acceleration. If anyone want to listen with low expectations you can PM me an email address and I can send them lol.

Overall I am satisfied. I want to give it a week to break in and see how it sounds then.

Thank you for the review! Give it a week or 500 miles to get "seasoned"
We love the sound on the 4Runner, gives it a little more grunt.

"you bought an exhaust so you know what you were going to get" is what the borla cs said. I responded with, if you provided a better video/review on your website it would have given us a better idea. I said this as polite as possible.

but also I dont think the cs guy knew too much since he said this was the only muffler for the 4runner.

I think i just got a bad rep to ask questions.

Is it tucked up and not at risk of crushing the tip like the other images show it?

I don't really care about top end noise. Or it being dead quiet in the cab (minus drone).

I want something that I can hear in the cab windows up or down at low rpm while offroading to get an idea where engine speed is. While navigating obstacles I don't want to have to look down at the tach just to know what's going on with the drivetrain (besides what my butt dyno can tell me). Also be nice just to hear a refined low growl just while putting around town.

My 3rd gens stock exhaust seemed to give me exactly that. 5th gen is too quiet for me.
I know exactly what you are explaining it is like that with my Tacoma. I'm still on my stock exhaust that girl still has an older mature personality. Muffler shop that replaced my cats says the stock ones are mighty fine.

Never heard back from Battle Born. Disappointing. I feel if you sell a product you should be the liaison between the customer and the manufacture. Not just take the cash and say “good luck”

Going to Borla seems like a waste of time from what I have read.

Had the tip cut to be more like the images advertised and on this thread. $25. But at least it is tucked up and out of harms way, about 5” to give you an idea how much longer it was. Does sound a little better, but still not a fan. I will say that if the exhaust tip was this far off who knows what else is wrong with it, so take my issues with the sound with a grain of salt.

Not a newbie with aftermarket exhaust, have had upgrades for decades. In fact a car I have now has a quad 4” tip Magnaflow cat back plus cross pipe. Love it on this car.

I can actually feel the exhaust vibration in my shifter and steering wheel to give you an idea how deep it is on the 4R. I would call it drone.

Don’t know what to do. Hate throwing more money at Borla but their touring series seems like a good fit for me other than the tip.

Couple pics on the piping on mine for reference. I didn't compare OEM beforehand as I didn't think about it, so I'm not sure if this sits lower or now. I took a far away pic as a better reference along with 2 closeups. Mine centers the indention in the rear.

I quantify drone as being an annoying sound while driving down the highway at standard speed, from my personal experience this doesn't really have a noise when driving down a normal road at normal speed. I was cruise controlling on the interstate and there was no noise on a normal incline road.

It can get loud when hard accelerating in the mid range, but I actually like that because it reminds me I have an aftermarket exhaust and I wanted to hear it.

I'll chime in here. I have about 5k miles on my Borla Cat Back, with AFE CAI. Mine got louder after the break in period, for sure! Especially while and after I towed a drift boat from Denver to Montana. The drone on up-hills while towing the boat was borderline insane - loud as hell. When we got back I had a shop look at it and they found that the fitting at the donut gasket was loose, causing air to escape, resulting in WAY more noise as well as added vibration. They said I likely banged it on something while off road. After they tightened it up, the vibration and most of the extra noise is gone, but it's still louder than it was when new. My 2 cents...
