For those who don't muffler, Borla has two type of cat-back system for the 4Runner.

S-Type and Touring.

S-Type is a straight through design, high clearance, and no tip

Touring is more of a mild s-shaped design with a chrome tip.

Borla Update

I finally had to remove my Borla Touring and went with a Walker SS Quiet Flow instead. I do have an AFE Momentum CAI, and after towing a drift boat from Denver to Central MT, the Borla became extremely loud at pretty much any speed, but was unbearable at anything over 3500-4000 RPM.

After having it looked at by 2 local shops, I took it to Exhaust Pros today and finally got the scoop, maybe. They said that while towing I burnt out the packing inside the Borla due to overheating. They also said this can happen with a V6 and almost never does with a V8 as it will stay much cooler under load.

If this is true, I feel like I would have read something about it (burnt packing while towing) from at least one of the hundreds of T4R owners running a Borla on this forum. But I never did....

Anyway, the Walker Quiet Flow seems great so far (maybe 15 miles in) so it seems I'm done with the exhaust headache, but still curious about damn Borla...

Anyone have a similar issue after towing?

Did you attempt to contact Borla at all for a replacement?

This exhaust has been a pita for me. Not going to cover what I have already posted. Newest is it melted my valance due to the end not being right in the first place. So not just the price of a new valance but having to remove the bumper...again! Ug!

Bought this tip to get to where I thought I would be after buying this thing. Had to use a dermal to cut of the Borla tip. Pita. But now no heat issues. This would be a great part for stock exhaust if it fits the 2.5” ID of the tip, I wouldn’t know my stock exhaust is in a landfill after being destroyed by the installer.

Love to get an update and a photo. I have not come across this option. I went to their web page and they don’t list Toyota. Do you have a part number? Installer? I am up in Fort Collins so going to Denver is no big deal.

I also tow so the level of noise under load is not great.

Thanks!

I did try calling Borla once, but after 2 idiots and 25 minutes I gave up. One of the guys at Exhaust Pros gave me $150 for the burnt out Borla....

Did you ever get a new gasket? If so do you have a part number? Did you just use OEM?
Thanks!

Ok 1k miles on my touring like it a lot but I feel the flow is still too restricted for me I wish the s-type had a better tip I would have gotten that instead
Also we did have to tweek the exhaust to fit as it sat too close to my valence but mild off-road and city use shows no other issues and it looks great
