Rear hatch interior release

I am curious if anyone has come up with a solution for an internal/interior release for the rear hatch. I know on the 200-series Land Cruiser/LX 570 it can be done due to the electronic release on the exterior and there are vendors that sell such kits. Can this be done on the 5th Gen 4Runner as well? I sleep inside of the 4Runner and I would like the option to open the rear lift gate from inside of the vehicle in order to exit instead of being forced to use the rear side doors.

Is this a function on limited models or some type of button pressing code? I don’t have a rear door button on my fob. Do tell.

Same here on our LX 570, but the same can't be said for the 4Runner.

There is a dude on here who sells a 50$ kit. @UtahRnr did a nice diy write-up.

There is also a way to attach a string to the latch through the little emergency panel. Forgot who did that write up but you can google t4r results and find it.

I can't speak to a Limited, we have a Pro, nice to know that they have the option on the Limited trim.

Thanks! I already have the exit switch coming but curious about the rear window mod now too. Does it work with the ignition off?

Ultimate Camping Mod

Here is the thread on the kit you can buy and diy:

Ultimate camping mod- rear window up / down and hatch pop with ignition off!

I bought the kit and did the install in an hour or so. Works great for both the hatch release and the ability to lower and raise the rear window, both without the key in the ignition.

I don't see why it wouldn't if the wiring is in parallel with the factory switch and the doors are unlocked.

Highly recommend this if you plan on camping in the truck. Game changer.

Here you go, sorry guys, a little confusion, I guess it is a slight mod, unlock with the fob and pull your release cord/string/strap etc.
Rear Hatch Mod (no electric)(open from inside)
