I have a GoPro, two Canon DSLRs, and an iPhone 7+. I use them all. What I use depends on what, where, when, and how I want to get video/photos. I also have a dash cam, which is automatically recording whenever the engine's running. This is just for "accident insurance" and to catch random day-to-day stuff.

My GoPro is a Hero 5 and is great for mounting on the exterior of the vehicle for action videos. It's waterproof, weatherproof, and can really take a beating. I have a couple extra batteries plus a charger set up inside the 4Runner so whenever one battery runs down, I can pop in a fresh one and put the dead one in the charger.

Can you share your charging setup?

for action videos, i think its hard to beat a gopro in terms of simplicity plus huge support for mounting options and accessories. my hero5 has taken a beating from snowboarding and MTB and has never skipped a beat. but at the end of the day, it's really what you plan to do with it.
