Kuat or 1Up, no question.
Aesthetics and functionality- Kuat
Simplicity and absolute durability - 1Up
Both are US companies if that matters to you.
I chose the Kuat NV partially based on looks as it looks damn good on the back of my T4R! I absolutely love it!!

For those running the 1Up on the stock hitch and rear facing exhaust. I did a cursory read of this thread and didn't notice a mention for exhaust heat concerns.
Anybody have issues with exhaust heat damaging your bikes with the aforementioned setup?
TIA.

1UP works great for me for several years now. Photo shows the 3 rack before I had 4 bikes, I have the fourth on now. No issues, but it is heavy to install with all 4 holders. Built solid.

100% agree. Love my Kuat. Sturdy, well-built, and looks great.
If I had to find a complaint about it, I’d say it could use 3-4 extra inches on the pull out cable that locks the bikes to the rack. You basically have to bee-line each end toward each other without much twisting or turning in order to get them locked.

Never notice any issues with my 1up and our 4runner. Exhaust sort of aims down so not sure why it would be an issue.

1up for sure. Trail tested on Hells Revenge, Top of the World, Seven Mile Rim and thousands of miles of harsh off road travel. Never a problem.
Biggest advantage of this rack is how it grabs bikes by the tires. No wear and tear on your bikes!

I prefer having unobstructed access to the cargo area and appreciate a rack that has a swing away option. I have a RockyMounts Backstage that I like a lot. The build quality is good and serves its function well, though 1UP and Kuat are probably a bit better. However, with Kuat and 1UP, you'll have to spend an additional $350 on top of the their rack's price to get the swing away option.

Didnt see any mention of the North Shore, quite a few friends have them and love them. Im sure a few people wont love that they are made in Canada.. but thats likely what I will be picking up this spring. Only good for mountain bikes though.

The reason you never found a concern about heat from the exhaust is because there isn't one. I've run the 1UP for years on cross country trips. Zero issues with exhaust heat.
