Didn’t they test the concept with consumers? This is a total flop IMO. Loved it on the FJ but damn they missed the mark here.

I gave the rack a chance, but it's subpar in almost every aspect. I put all kinds of stuff up there just to see how it would work; bagged tents, boxes, ammo cans, cases of water bottles, just whatever I had, and even the tie down options are limited and awkward.
The actual storage capacity is limited by the cross rails, of which you get 4, and although they're adjustable/movable there's really no good way to place them to gain extra capacity unless you had 5 total instead of the 4. On top of that, the basket area itself is smaller than expected due to both the slight upward taper and the fat diameter rails. It's also only rated to hold 110 lbs. Its aluminum construction also seems much flimsier than I originally imagined once I got it off the roof.
I think it would be one thing if people just removed them and tossed them, but I sold mine for $450 to a local guy (out of three interested buyers in a months time) and will invest that money into a decent aftermarket rack that actually works. Sure, it's a trim-specific feature, but so is the voodoo blue paint hence why I got that one. That rack is really just bad if you need to actually carry things.
*EDIT* I did however put a kayak up there, sitting on the back of the rack itself and the front upper crossbar for about a 45 min drive out and back a couple of times. I just used ratchet straps but had to sort of figure 8 the bottom of the strap around another crossbar due to intense oscillation noise above 50 mph on the straps. The rack held up ok but I was fairly concerned the whole trip hah.
