I actually find it completely amusing that buyers are taking their brand new top trim truck back to the dealer to remove a trim-exclusive item.

Didn’t they test the concept with consumers? This is a total flop IMO. Loved it on the FJ but damn they missed the mark here.

Oh I know. It may have been on another thread that I predicted these would sell fast!

*Flame suit on*

The TRD Pro roof rack is a comedic joke of an accessory and makes the truck look sillier than it needs to be. Its big and heavy and looks so out of place on that vehicle. I'd pay extra to ensure if came from the factory without one.

Max height of Pro with rack

Can anyone confirm the max height of the Pro with the rack on. I read OL that it is 72". Thought it would be taller

No it's taller than 72". I'm 6'3" so 75", and it's taller than me, though I never measured it before removing it.

I gave the rack a chance, but it's subpar in almost every aspect. I put all kinds of stuff up there just to see how it would work; bagged tents, boxes, ammo cans, cases of water bottles, just whatever I had, and even the tie down options are limited and awkward.

The actual storage capacity is limited by the cross rails, of which you get 4, and although they're adjustable/movable there's really no good way to place them to gain extra capacity unless you had 5 total instead of the 4. On top of that, the basket area itself is smaller than expected due to both the slight upward taper and the fat diameter rails. It's also only rated to hold 110 lbs. Its aluminum construction also seems much flimsier than I originally imagined once I got it off the roof.

I think it would be one thing if people just removed them and tossed them, but I sold mine for $450 to a local guy (out of three interested buyers in a months time) and will invest that money into a decent aftermarket rack that actually works. Sure, it's a trim-specific feature, but so is the voodoo blue paint hence why I got that one. That rack is really just bad if you need to actually carry things.

*EDIT* I did however put a kayak up there, sitting on the back of the rack itself and the front upper crossbar for about a 45 min drive out and back a couple of times. I just used ratchet straps but had to sort of figure 8 the bottom of the strap around another crossbar due to intense oscillation noise above 50 mph on the straps. The rack held up ok but I was fairly concerned the whole trip hah.

Big, surely, but not heavy at all. 26 lbs total: rack cross bars and hardware.

I had no idea how much it weighs. It has such a hefty look with those thick bars I would've guessed 50lbs at least. Surprised I was off by half. Also surprised those racks can hold so much static weight, I thought modifications had to be done to fit the RTT.

EDIT: Just saw your previous post about it only holding 110 lbs. That must not be the static weight figure. Isn't static weight usually 2-3X the moving weight rating?

I honestly thought it would be 50-60 lbs as well. Even the tech at Toyota commented that he thought it would have been double the weight and told me he doesn't like the rack either. And yes I believe you're right about that figure. I think the static rating must be lower than 110 - at least to me it seems that flimsy. It's printed on the base of the front feet on either side but I don't remember the exact wording.
