That pretty much sums it up. My son who is a perfectionist when it comes to wiring found some pretty scary connections, live wires snipped off and not even taped, etc. He wired everything professionally. At least they used good products for the install, just did a shoddy job of it. And this was a dealer installation. Sad. If there had been a fire caused by their crappy installation, you think they would have covered it? Somehow I doubt it.

It would be odd for a dealership to install that. Most of the time they would send it out to a shop to be done but either way it was shoddy. Hard to find quality work these day especially when everything goes to the low bidder.

You are probably right on the fire thing. Glad you got it fix.

My 2012 Subaru Outback will beep, unless you hit the lock button twice on the fob, then it honks the horn.

My 2018 4Runner only beeps. Normally I am fine with the beep, but at times, when I’m far from the vehicle (but still in range of the remote), I’d like to hear the horn honk.

Mine did the same thing and it was actually a very quick fix. Turn on the car, turn it off, then quickly push the alarm button underneath the dash 3 times. The horn will sound twice to confirm that you did it correctly.

Sounds like a typical dealer.

Mine beeped the one time I pushed the button(s) to lock and unlock it. Quite the novelty.
I lock and unlock with the key in the door(s). Been doing it that way for 43 years. No reason to stop now.

Does anyone know if connecting a 12v 20w alarm horn to the piezo speaker is possible? just like unsub1 and billnourse wrote, I too need to trust but verify my vehicle is locked by hearing 👂 it. The piezo is a joke for a vehicle which is "old school" like The Car Care Nut says.
