You have a point. I think it depends on the model. The 4runners clearly have good coverage with the OEM plastic. As you can see from the earlier pics, the RCR liner covers a good portion of the frame if that constitutes any benefit.

Agree. My truck has 200k+ miles. The liners aren’t doing much at this point as you stated, hanging on for dear life. Lol

This mod looks cool, but has anyone thought about temps?

Good question. Another member brought this up and hence fabricator is considering adding vents at the top for those individuals concerned. Similar to the one pictured below.

Will ask the fabricator. Let me get back to you.

Sorry that response was meant for the post prior. I will need to ask the fabricator regarding your question. Let me get back to you.

Please post some pics of your setup. Fabricator is pretty confident he can make it work.

Engine bay temperatures, maybe minimal change. The area change is pretty minimal from the rubber versions though, and most of the air will flow goes out the back of the engine bay past the transmission anyway. If you really want to lower temps, put some hood vents near the top front of the engine to let the air that comes out of the radiator escape.
As far as brake temperatures, there's nothing to worry about. You get enough airflow to the wheel wells under the car, especially in a lifted application. Also, unibody cars and SUVs don't have any openings like that in the wheel wells and none have brake cooling issues because of it. Also, it's really hard to get your brakes hot enough to run into issues unless you're towing downhill or doing repeated panic stops from freeway speeds.

I'm interested in this. My fender liners are destroyed.

Yeah I don't see how these are going to flex as much as the stock covers. Don't think the body and frame should be connected with a metal plate but maybe I am missing something here. Mall crawling mod???

The body and frame don't move that much with respect to each other. A little oversize on the mounting holes and some rubber, and it's no problem. It's also <1mm thick sheet metal for the steel version, so if anything is going to break, it will be the fender liner. I assume the aluminum will have similar thickness.

They do if you leave pavement. My front bumper had 3/4" clearance from my front fenders and would routinely hit the fenders.
That sheet metal in the wheel wells is 24ga (0.6mm) and cracks from the weight of the battery if you spend any time on bumpy roads.

Inv4drZm did a full coverage set in aluminum last year, he wheels hard.
Seems like he didnt attach it to the frame, so no problems with body/frame flex.
Pg.54 post#804...and that would be in his build thread.
He sells some stuff, dont know about the liners though.
I have had full coverage in the rubber and no increase in engine temperature according to
the Scan Gauge 2.
...4th gens both.
