Agree with your maintenance comments. Mixed bag for sure.
VW uses the indirect method again as well.

Just disable it all together. I’m now running rubber valve stems also.

Made this jumper wire

Jumped these two wires together. They are 5 & 6 on the tpms sensors module. (Light green and dark green. Right next to each other behind driver dash panel.)

Light is forever gone.

Well seems they might of changed something on 2018.

I shorted 5 & 6 and light is still on. Light green and dark green.

Used a quick splice and no go

Edit

Nevermind use the right size quick splice if you going do this lol.

First try i used one too big didnt even cut the insulation

The wires being so small made it hard at first. Glad to hear you got it working!

I have done it twice at Discount tire. I went in for a nail and another time for a rotation. Mentioned my TPMS was acting weird and they programmed all 4 each time no charge

Disabling TPMS

How di I disable the TPMS system of my 2017 4 runner SR5

While it may be possible to disable the system, it is a violation and, quite simply, foolish. Prior to the implementation of the TREAD Act, the majority of cars on the road had under inflated tires and a significant amount had pressure that was at least 25% under the placarded value.
A violation of what? #LOL #OMG

The consumer isn’t violating anything by disabling the TPMS. But a tire dealer would be violating Motor Vehicle Safety Act (49 USC 30122(b) by making your TPMS inoperative by installing rubber stems on your truck’s wheels. But if your TPMS wasn’t working at the time you went in to get new tires, that’s OK. They didn’t make the system inoperative, it already didn’t work. It’s a confusing issue for everyone, consumers, dealers, tire dealers, repair shops.
This article explains it better:

I just dealt with this. I used the ATEQ Quickset. It will upload new tpms sensor id codes to the ECU. It will not read or activate sensors. If you know your codes this is the cheapest way to DIY tpms fix (not disable). It can also download currently installed/unknown tpms codes from an ecu.

The spare can be tricky. It's code is already in your ECU but its is not labeled. Its just one of the five codes the ecu needs to keep the light off. The best test method was to deflate each tire under 25lbs to see light go on, then inflate to see light go off. Was better than driving 20 miles to see if I had the correct codes in ecu.

Adding, wish I had a discount tire by me. They do this for free.
