Hey guys, my 14 TEP was having some issues with the shift lever feeling stiff, then "D" would not illuminate, and now a CEL on my way to work this morning. After reading the many posts on other people needing to replace their neutral safety switch because of corrosion, and the fact that a Toyota tech had to use a torch and 2 hours to do an alignment last week because of corrosion, I'm sure this is my issue as well. I have replaced this part on my Tacoma, and it was a huge PITA, so I was wondering if anyone has had any success in fixing their switch by lubricating it still on the trans.

If you haven't yet had any issues with your NSS, and you live where salt is prevalent, I highly suggest you crawl underneath your 4Runner, passenger side, and spray that MF-er with some Fluid Film, or the like.

I guess I'll be the first to try it, if nobody else has, lol. I have some Evapo Rust, I wonder if I can get a ziplock bag full of E.R. over the switch and fill it up overnight, then lube the crap out if it. Even if that doesn't solve my issue, it should at least make it easier to remove when it's getting replaced.

Maybe you should pull the code before guessing? People prolly holding off from stating the obvious.

Decided to try spraying the NSS down with PB. My hard shift was immediately fixed, D was back to being illuminated, and S mode works again. I thought I would need to let it soak overnight at least to see this kind of improvement, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm adding this to my list of things to do when changing the oil. When a problem is obvious, why check codes when I spent less time just fixing it? You guys that are getting these huge repair bills for replacing the NSS, no reason not to give this a try first.

I started to get the P0705 (and flashing 4-low, cel, and trac off) on my 2016 4Runner (40k miles). Thankfully, I saw this thread. I was able to work through the gears about 10 times (car off) and this completely went away. I’ll get under there to soak down the NSS but wanted to say thanks and let others know this did the trick for me. You saved me a trip to the mechanics and a lot of $$!

Spraying mine with PB worked. For about a week.
