P1604 Engine Code help

Hey guys, yesterday "maintenance required" popped up. I pulled the code and it says:

"P1604 Engine Code - Startability Malfunction"

Searched and couldn't find much info about it. It's still showing up today too. Anyone dealt with that before?

Never experienced the code myself but a quick search online stated two common reasons for this code.

The first being the engine tried to start with very low or no fuel in the tank. Pretty straight forward to confirm or eliminate this possibility.

The second is an under performing battery. Meaning your battery is either no longer holding an adequate charge or it's output is diminishing. I would have a local parts store do an actual check of the battery to make sure it is fine, if you do not have the means to do a thorough check on the battery yourself.

Hope this helps you some.

Toyota P1604 - Startability Malfunction

Possible causes might include (1) Starting system / low battery charge, and (2) Fuel system - low quality fuel / fuel filter clogged.

There is a long list of other possible trouble areas with the P1604 code - see attachment.

I have a 18 ORP , but I don’t have any warning lights and am getting the P1604 code. I used Carista to change some settings when I noticed it. I had the dealer check it during my 40k service and was told it’s nothing to worry about. I don’t have a fuel filter and the battery seems fine so I’m clueless as to what the cause is.
