35x12.5R17?
Has anyone had success clearing a true 35" tire such as the 35X12.5R17 General Grabber A/T X for heavy offroad use, without a long travel suspension setup?
I have seen all the threads about fitting 315/70's which I know is possible (especially with 17x8" rims), but I'm curious if anyone has done true 35" on 8.5" rims? I know the passenger side firewall, pinch welds, and body mounts among the obstacles to overcome, but if cutting the firewall would be necessary, I may have to reconsider things.

I run a 35x12.50x17 toyo MT. About as true a 35 as you’ll get really. Run a lot of caster, more than average BMC done and high clearance bumper mod.

Did, thanks. I noted in the post I have read many threads on this, none that I saw with true 35" tires. And to clarify, I mean measure 35" tall, not 34 and change.

I will admit there is no clear recipe of adding 35s to our 4runner after doing research on the forum or google.
But
@ GX4SEVEND
is right. You can run 35's with an aggressive BMC, lots of caster, and high clearance bumper.
I have also seen people do a body lift or a shock strut and 3 inch spring in the rear.

You've probably seen this Going Bigger - 5th Gen Tire Fitment Guide

Going Bigger - 5th Gen Tire Fitment Guide
The regear is the deal killer on my 5th gen. The torque of the V8 in my 4th gen makes up for it some, but after a year of driving it, I'm already thinking hard about some 4:56s.

I just don't want to have to any serious re-welding to things like the firewall etc. I'm aware that there will be lots of cutting/bending etc. to pinch welds and body mounts, but it seems like around ~34.7-8 may be the limits of what you can accomplish without LT. Again for heavy offroad use.

I'm also not a fan of doing a body lift, so I realize that may limit me some as well, when it comes to measuring taller than that.

Its not like you'll see much of a wheeling difference between the two. Just take the smaller one especially since you don't want to do the work of installing a body lift.

Did you have to lower your bump stops? If so how far?

Yes sort of...in the rear I have Timbren's, which are pretty tall bumpstops. They were about the same length as what I had before, which was the toytec bump stop spacer with the stock bump stop in the rear. In the front, I used Wheeler's superbumps, which are taller than stock.

Haha, Thanks!
I half-assed started one back in 2015 on here, but got lazy. There were also so many cooler builds than mine...and at that time I was pretty tame.
