TE Rack - Old Style

I have an old style TE Rack (Black with two slits). How do I slide bolts into the side of it/ I want to mount a Yakima Basketcase rack between the rails.

Any advice or pics of how to would be appreciated?

Thanks

You can buy the crossbars that fit that rack from Toyotas parts department or at a dealer. The cross bars from later model years are not compatible.

Side note to the thread, but do you know the P/N# for the refreshed 5th gen crossbars?

Unfortunately I do not. I had the local dealer look up everything for me. I just got rid of my original crossbars too or I'd offer them.

If you were local to me I could give you the rack off my ‘17. Check the 5th gen classified here on the forum.

Ok not sure how this thread got jacked. Not looking for the crossbars I'm looking for a way to mount a rack between the rails. I need some sort of bolt to fit into the side rails. Not sure how to do that or if there is some sort of trick to do that.

This is the rack. I pulled the pic off the internet

Look up "spring nut" on amazon - makes attaching accessories both the inside and outside tracks on TE racks super easy (home depot has them too if you have one close by). It's been awhile but I think I had to shorten the springs on some of them, just used wire cutters for that. I also shot them with some cold galvanizing compound and used a dab of anti seize to prevent future issues.

Best thing I used them for was to mount dock cleats to the outside rails. If you actually tie stuff to your roof frequently it makes it about as easy as it can be. Also at home depot for like $4 each (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...1714/205883081). If the weather cooperates I'll get a picture up this evening.

The TE rack is freakin awesome for just this reason.

You have to remove the end cap to access the end of the channel, and slide in from there. Been a while since I did that or I'd tell you how. It wasn't difficult, I'm sure you could look up how somewhere on here or in the manual. good luck.

The point of the spring nuts is that you _don't_ need to remove the end caps. Just slip the spring nut in sideways, do a 1/2 twist, and you have a solid backing nut in the channel ready to mount whatever.

You want these. I use them all the time to attach stuff to the inner track on my rack.

Ok, drop in fastener or spring nut. Decisions decisions....

Thank you. This is exactly what I needed.

Which one is stronger? Or the same?

Awesome! This is helpful to me too, I recently got a 13 TE and was looking at the rack the other day thinking I should figure out how to utilize it.
