Another Pro Lifted with 6112s (pics and measurements) UPDATE: Added 285s

Finally got a day off to install my 6112s and Dobinsons 599 1.25" rear springs. Front was lifted about 2.5" and rear about 1.5". I did it using the no spring compressor route and it was the easiest spring swap I've ever done. Took me about 3 hours to do the front and rears. First front spring took about an hour the other side took about 20 minutes. Rear was a bigger pita then the fronts for sure. Did it all by myself. A good helper would have cut the time down quite a bit. I'll include before and after pics below with the measurements.

Install tips :

1. Tall floor jack and jack stands.
2. Loosen bolts on LCA mounts and lower strut mount before lowering LCAs. This will allow the arm to completely fold down.
3. Lower ball joint bolts and lower strut bolt have red loctite so an impact or a good breaker bar is very helpful.
4. Stock bottle jack between rear axle and bump stops make getting the rear spring in and out a breeze.

Driving and ride impressions.

Ride is definitely firmer but I wouldn't call it rough or harsh by any means. Rides very good over bumps but maybe a little bump steer but may be due to the fact I haven't had it aligned yet. Cornering definitely feels better and body roll was reduced. Brake dive is greatly reduced. Other the having to climb up into it more I doubt most normal people would even notice the ride difference. All in all in very happy with it as far as looks and ride. Can't beat it for spending less then $300. I think my only real negative was the drastically reduced down travel, although I knew that would be the case. It'll hold me over until I can budget the full King setup next year.

Getting it aligned Friday and will let the suspension settle in for about a month and update measurements of they change much.

Any questions or anything just let me know.

Looks great!! What would you say was the hardest part about doing the rear?

Im also going to attempt doing the rear coil swap with dobinsons c59-505 coils by myself so i wanted to see what to expect.

Any advice?

Delivered from Bayou City to Bayou Pro's ride, I'm glad you made good use of my springs. Very nice stance!

Thanks!

Nothing was hard it was just a pita doing it alone. If I had an extra person to step on the hub on each side while I slipped the springs in and out it would have been so easy. I used the stock bottle jack between the axle and bump stop on each side to force the rear down and they went right in. Only other hard thing was a pain is that only removed the lower shock mount on the rear to allow it to drop. Took a big pry bar to get them off and some never seize and a dead blow to get them back on, just due to the angle.

Watch some YouTube vids on changing springs without a compressor and the fronts are gravy! Good luck!!

Thanks! i was able to do the fronts already. I am making my way to the rears next.

So having the bottle jack helped you a lot instead of having another person?

Do u have to unbolt the top part of the shocks or just the bottom?

Did u have to unclip any brake lines?

Yes the bottle jack worked perfect just not as quick s someone stepping on each side.

Yes I only unbolted the lower shock mounts.

No there was no need to unclip any of the brake lines or wiring.

Saw this right after I commented on the other 6112 post. Did you get your 599s from dobinsons mike or somewhere else?

No I bought them off of a forum member here that decided to go with a higher lift. Same as I did for the 6112s as well. Got like $300 into both sets. Not a bad deal.

It's going to look great with 285's. You have some good spring rates for additional load now.

Looking good. I am glad it worked out. Once you add bigger tires it will change the way your truck looks even more.

Thanks. Getting the alignment done in the morning and still trying to get the BMC done so I can put on the tires.

You are tempting me with that no-comressor method!

Should I join the dark side

Will see! There is time.

Great thread!

Man in telling you it was the easiest spring swap I've ever done. Much better then having to mess with those sketchy spring compressors. Safer as well. I was leary at first too. That's why it took me so long on the first side. I was quadruple checking everything. Just do it!!Another Pro Lifted with 6112s (pics and measurements) UPDATE: Added 285s
