Awning off the Back of your 4runner

Hello,

I am curious if anyone has an awning that installs of the back of their 4runner. I've been looking around and found this on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Offroading-Ge...r=8-2-fkmrnull

This one seems almost too inexpensive to be any good, but I like the concept at least that you open and close the back with the awning installed. At least that is my understanding.

Does anyone have any experience with this model or any other awnings that mount off the back?

Thanks.

Pop up tent and call it a day.

Can still open close rear hatch.

Agree, something like this seems like it could be useful on longer trips. Here's another option: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y3NDMLJ/

Had one just like that from another Amazon seller (was $99.95 and bright blue), was a bit of a pain to set up but worked great for its first trip; second trip we tied what was hooked to the rear wheels to two perfectly spaced out trees (so we could leave camp set up while hitting some trails); turned out the wind caught it, inverted it, broke the poles and then it swung around smashing everything in sight...

More recently we used a Kelty Noah Tarp 12 with some decent success. We used knock-off Kelty poles along with magnets w/ carabiners to secure it to the LFD roof rack...

Long story short, I'll be ordering an ARB 2500 before our next trip and should have just bit the bullet from the start

Check out Slumberjack.com. They have the Roadhouse Tarp, Roadhouse screen tarp, & Slumber shack tent. They all attach over the back but allow you to open the back hatch. I have the Roadhouse tarp & love it.

Here's a photo from a post that shows how a cheap tarp can be used for a rear hatch awning...I'm going to find some old tent poles and give it a try this weekend.

This! The Roadhouse tarp is great for tailgating or temporary quick cover. Nice setup and easy to work with.

Just got my Roadhouse tarp and can't wait to have an excuse to get out and use it.

I had one of those. Made for light duty. 10-15 mph winds at the beach ripped the some of the tabs that held the hooks along the poles.

Otherwise it's a nice thing to have to escape the sun.

Privacy

Is there a privacy room option to any of the awnings? I am thinking of consolidate how much campground space I would need. I know you could buy 4 clamps and a large tarp to turn the rear hatch into a privacy room, but I am wondering if there is a better option?
