Do we need this too ?

Not entirely necessary, it was just a preference. Jason's instructions said to stack steel washers, the nylon spacer (when cut down to size) offers more solid surface against the upper "lug" built into the grip handle.

So I did order and since paying have not received a reply ? Funny because he was readily available with back and forth emails until sending money, then silence. Sent another email today and hope to hear back.

Seems like a legit guy from all the posts, hope he's just busy.

Will update next week which is plenty of time for a reply.

He is probably just busy. He is an engineer for Boeing, so his work takes him away at times.
I think you will receive a reply as soon as he gets to it.

Yup, he does travel frequently, so he'll be in touch. He's been an honorable guy in the past. Doubt that's going to suddenly change.

Btw not sure if it was mentioned but I 100% guarantee this handle was left off just the US 4Runner because of US-specific crash testing.
Not positive which test, but I'm guessing that it impeded on the dummy (or the dummy's momentum pushed it into the handle orclose to it) in some offset or frontal crash.

Guessing something about the GX or other model Lexus SUVs made it impede differently or to a lesser extent.

I sent an email as well asking for pricing and availability and haven’t heard back.

Side note.....those part numbers listed do not have the color option listed so the dealer needs that. It also comes up as a passenger side handle in Toyota’s system.

Yes, got a reply !! He's been having difficulties with whoever welds the brackets for him. Anyway not in a hurry just was wondering what was going on and now I know.

So the scary part of this mod will be the drilling for second hole of the bracket … any tips and/or things to watch out for ??

dont worry about drilling - i provide a template of exactly where to drill - and no one else has had an issue so its working out great....location wise.

hey sorry ya guys - my welder/machine shop guys is an near by my work and he is full up aerospace level machine shop - so my "litlle bracket cut and weld job" is not his top priority. he has to run a machine shop business and employee people so his priority is on contracted high dollar work. so i usually have to stop by, see how it going, even help him or a worker make them.

i made a mold that aids in them welding them at the appropriate angle, etc.

then lastly - when i travel with work doesn't help. I take some with me on travel and as those that received some from me know i ship usps - so i have go to nearest USPS in whatever city im in to get orders out to individuals.

so know im working it. I will have some this week coming for sure and yours is one. having 20 made this time - i leave to maimi the week of the 7th then DC the following week or the week after that.

thanks guys!

-J

correct, the part numbers dont say colors - which is so difficult and why i really recommend purchasing from your local toyota dealership counter - if they get it wrong and order you the wrong color they will make it right and order again...but if you order from some toyota website then its much more difficult to return pay shipping, etc.

that happened to me - see the attached pic - when i did this on my own 4runner i ordered the handles and the two caps of the handle in what i thought was grey and i was sent a gray handle and two TAN caps.

so my own 4runner was like this until i got around to visiting my local dealer and using the numbers provided the parts counter guy was able to find the correct color part numbers.

yes - the handle is an OEM passenger side handle - which you flip 190 degree's and tada...becomes a drivers side handle....

Thanks,
-J

Re Color:

The last 2 characters are the color code, "B0" is the light grey

74615-60040-B0 PLUG, FR ASSIST GRIP
74616-60040-B0 PLUG, FR ASSIST GRIP
74680-60010-B0 GRIP ASSY, PILLAR AS

If you know the other trim color codes, simply substitute.
