Body Mount Chop Price Quote - SoCal
Hey all!
I got a price quote of $250 to perform my body mount chop by a local shop in Costa Mesa, CA. I asked them if they prefer me to purchase the kit or if they want to use their own metal to weld back onto the body mount & they said either way works - so I went ahead and ordered the Total Chaos kit for $20 from Wheelers (which I received in like 2 days). I would love to do this mod by myself but unfortunately I do not weld, nor do I have an angle grinder to cut the BM (& I highly doubt my dremel will do the job).
Does this sound like a reasonable $$$ amount for the job??
Thanks!

I've only called a few places, but that's been on par with the quotes I got.

Yup. $250 is a decent price for a BMC

Couple hours to cut, grind, weld, grind, paint + setup + material (weld stick and gas) - I would say that's a good price.
Someone on here might do it for you for like $100 if they were generous. Back in the day we use to have wrenching parties where a group would go to someones house and help each other out for the day. Doesn't seem to happen much anymore.

Oh that sounds fun! didn't even know this was a thing. i would be down.
I love to work on my car and/or other peoples car and learn new things.
i find it nuts people pay $600+ to get their suspension installed when it only takes a few hours. Unless you have KDSS that is a pain in the AAAAA. it wasnt fun but eh i did it.
If i could i would do my own welds but i know that comes from years of experience to have beautiful welds. and i dont have my own setup
@ ScarfaceT4R
hit up IPM Fabrication in Gardena. I got my BMC for around $175 i think.

Awesome, thanks for all the feedback! I heard nothing but good things about this shop (OC Motorsports) & the welder so I wont feel bad about spending the $250.

We used to have some pretty large parties in my Dakota club, mainly Houston for locals but National for yearly meets. Install parties quickly turned into drinking events after the install was done or about half way through for some. I used to work on friends or co-workers cars all the time but got burned out when some would not even throw $20 my way. I even lent my car out to a person once and they didn't even put gas in it.
I hear you on the welding. I have a 220V MIG and I am still lacking the skills.

You could buy a Sawzall at Harbor Freight for $34 and cut it in 15 minutes, then hit the edges with Rustoleum and be done. That's all it needs or takes if you are really trying to do it on the cheap.

How satisfied are you with his overall work and service? I saw his car in Torrance and the big decal he had on the side of it made me look up the shop. I follow them on IG but haven't reached out for any work. Just curious.

Definitely sounds familiar. I bought a a Nissan Frontier when I was 19 and as soon as I got it, everyone started calling me to help them move. The truck was a POS and ended up needing a new engine after 60K. At leaset the calls to help move stopped lol.
