I just decided that with the good offer my dealer gave me and the fact that other than routine maintenance it never cost me anything. I thought I would just start fresh before it started to nickel and dime me to death. After 5 years in my 5th gen I can say it is better in most every way except I still miss the V8 badly.

This is pretty amazing! Even down to the year and color of our 4runners.

Keep what you have, 5th gens are not that special.

Those of you who've owned previous generation 4runners and now own a 5th gen do you think the new ones are built as well as the older 4runners?

Yes, both are solidly built. About the same.

I currently own both gens from new. Both are nice, but I have to give the nod to the 4th gen. IMO I think Toyota cheaped out just a little bit when they introduced the 5th....that said, imo the new 4runner offers alot of bang for the buck and is one of the best values out there in a mid-size suv around 40k.

The thin gauge metal used on the 5th gens makes it feel cheaper than the 4th gens IMO. Taking our 5th gen through the touchless carwash when I'm lazy, the high powered fans at the end make the hood shudder so badly I'm concerned it will do long term damage! Even on the highway the hood flexes and moves around in the wind, which is very unusual until you get used to it. Not sure if the hood scoop stiffens things up at all?
It's otherwise very sturdy, as were the 4th gens.

Tell me about it I want to cry when I see 12.3 on the computer on my 2016, I just don't understand it. I have a 21 year old 15 passenger van 275's and it gets 11 in the city and weights over 8000 lbs. My 2016 shouldn't be only 1+ MPG better, freaking mind boggling. I took my RTT off for the winter and the mileage didn't really change.

Keep the one you have and go buy a second car just for fun. Like a used BMW or Porsche. Best of both worlds.
