5th Gen Lift Diff Drops?

Hi, so after posting many questions in other threads, I finally pulled the trigger on a 3" Bilstein Toytec lift kit. I had it installed at a mechanic that specializes in Toyotas and he did a great job.

However, I did have a question regarding the front diff drops though- He said he advises not to install them because it puts more stress on the driveshaft, and the stress on the CV boots isn't as much as people say without them installed... I just wanted to get some other opinions on this. We left them off but I still have them so I could throw it on myself no problem.

So, in short, should I install the diff drop kit for a 3" lift or is what he says about the driveshaft right and I should leave them off?

Thanks!

I just did a 2.5" lift in mine and did not use the diff drop. It only drops the front of the diff so I can see his point about increasing the pinion angle on the driveshaft. Not sure if it would be enough to cause an issue but who knows. It really doesn't do much for the CV angles either so I chose not to waste the money or effort.

I installed a diff drop only to remove it. The benefit on the cv shaft is minimal and the hassle of dropping the skid plates to adjust for a lower diff is not worth it. I prefer the extra clearance.

I took mine off about 75,000 miles ago and haven't looked back. No issues with 3" lift
