KYB strut mount kit

Hi all,
I’m looking to pick up a strut mount kit for my 2013 trail edition with KDSS so I can have my 5100’s and Eibach springs pre-assembled before I install them.
Toyota wants $268 per side for the oem parts and the KYB SM5640 kit on Amazon goes for $28 US or $41 CAN per side.
Amazon, KYB site and other auto parts sites say this kit won’t work with KDSS vehicles. Are the shocks and coils different on SR5’s vs. Trail editions? Or how they’re mounted?
Thanks in advance for any help clarifying this!

Just found this on amazon looking at KYB SM5640 Mount Kit for my 2013 4runner trail. hopefully this answers our questions. I will try it and let the world know if it works on my vehicle.

"Replaces OEM on 5th Gen 4Runner with KDSS
By Patrick Yam on August 30, 2019 Even though the description says, excludes KDSS, these do replace the stock mounts on a 5th gen 4runner with KDSS.
I bought these, and used the bushing, and washers included with the kit. But I reused the OEM nuts, since they were in good shape, and were more robust than the ones that came with this kit.
I carefully, compared the OEM mounts to these, and they are identical"

All shock parts are interchangeable with KDSS and non-KDSS. So any top mount that fits a 5th gen will fit your 4Runner.

And just for good measure, I can confirm that I've used the SM5640 kit on my KDSS equipped vehicle.

Thanks for the replies, however i already bought a members slightly used front assemblies and robbed the strut mounts!
I installed my new suspension and tested it out on a two week road trip to Ouray and Moab. Everything went well!

Maybe a dumb question, but which top hat washer goes on top and which goes on bottom of the completed assembly? One is slightly larger and a one is a different shape.

I believe the larger flat one goes on top. The sculpted one goes on the underside and fits atop the shock shaft rod adapter.

See page 5 of this PDF for an example.

Question- do y'all pry out the rubber bushing already pressed in the KYB top hat and use the poly Eibach* ones on both sides?

Edit- I am using Eibach shocks with the KYB top hats.

I did, but to use the bushings provided by Dobinsons - they just looked a bit beefier.

The KYB bushing that was set in place just took a slight tap from a 3/8" extension and popped right out. Compared to the Dobinsons one and liked the metal top-inside plate Dobinsons provided, so I used those.

Weird- the KYB top hat I have has that bushing glued in or something- been trying to get it out without tearing it up...in case I had to put it back for some reason.

UPS is supposed to bring 2 more KYB top hats today- I have thread elsewhere on here where the 2 sent me at first, even though having the same part number, were different. One was definitely cheap looking and had some other manufacturer's logo on it.

Mine had a /tiny/ amount of glue holding them in place. With the 3/8" extension and a slight tap on the end of it they popped right off. Barely took anything to clean up and they were not damaged if I had chosen to use them.

I liked how the Dobinsons had metal for the tapered neck which goes through the hole and holds the rubber bushing - the KYB I wasn't positive on for that.

OK I was able to pop the insert out once I realized it was a separate piece. Took a lot of force to get the rubber off the metal piece to reuse it- otherwise the hole in the top hat is a little large. That was some tough adhesive they used- wish I had some of that.

Now I find the Eibach coils have closer spacing than the OEM spring- my spring compresser won't fit between the coils....it is always something. I had used the spring compressor about 8 years ago on my FJCruiser when I replaced the front springs with heavier ones because I added a winch and bumper.

Still waiting on UPS- they are about 4 hours later already than yesterday when the Eibach kit arrived.
