USB port in dash for charging?
Every time I try to use the usb port in the dash to charge my phone all it does is drain it. I plug it in, it shows its charging , but the longer it's plugged in the faster it drains power. Is it just a data port? It's not the cord and works using the cigarette lighter ports in the console and dash, but not the usb port.

Mine charges my iPhone, but drains my buddy's Galaxy Note. I blame the cord, but we haven't tested it.

Mine works, but is slow. I use a home charger in the 120v socket in the console or use one of these:

Yes, tracking. It's a bandaid. I would rather rewire the cigarette lighter, being there's no ashtray and have usb ports that work.

It's a very slow speed charge. Around .5amp. Buy a quality quick charge plug. Quick Charge is usually around 2.0 amps. There are many variations. Avoid anything cheap. I plug in Nano Usb with music into the factory usb.

Just an FYI ...the usb port in the dash is a data port for updating your radio..or if you want to play music from a usb drive..it is not for charging your phone ..

I use mine to charge my wireless headphones on the way to the gym. Never an issue but that's the only thing I have tried charging with it.

I have used the factory USB ports on other vehicles/brands and same result, poor charging.

I added a USB port to the blank to the right of the steering wheel. Have an anker roav dashcam hardwired in with cigarette lighter port hidden behind the dash, had a extra usb port that I wired a usb extension too. Charges my android phone really fast.

I hooked one of these up to the socket in the glove box. Charges several devices at once fairly quickly, plus it's a hub so if you have, say, a tablet that you want to hook up a USB device to you can do that while charging the tablet at the same time. It's got a LONG cord, that I just keep it coiled up - but if I need to dole out power to folks in the back seat I can do that too.

It charges mine just fine, Galaxy S5. Charges my wife's S8 also.
I recall when plugging it in, had to select something about charging versus it doing something else, but do not recall, I usually use the plug outlet for charging.
