Spare tire bay size

Will a 285/70-17 on a 9in rim fit in the spare tire bay under the back? Would I lose clearance or is it tucked up there pretty good? I ordered a 5th rim and tire and would rather not have to put it on the roof rack or deal with a swing-away blocking the rear hatch. I also don't want to drag a nice Fuel wheel on stuff when on trails.

Still waiting on the tire and can test when it comes in but was wondering if anybody messed with this before in the meantime?

A 285/70 will fit on the stock spare rim. However, it does stick down more and would limit departure angle a bit I suppose.
Why would you have a fancy 9" rim under your truck where it will get beat up?

Can't you just put the pretty side up? Let the inside of the wheel get beat on since it will face down?

Its just going to get f'd up. Even the limiteds have an epoxy coating on the spare b/c of this. Just mount the tire on the stock rom amd hold on to the new one until you get a rear bumper with a tire mount.

I think I'll just look at rear tire carriers. I've seen a few hitch swing-ways that look nice. Thanks for the input.

the newer limiteds do not have an epoxy on the wheel. i recently replaced my stock spare with a matching 17" wheel and 285 tire. The stock spare was in perfect condition besides some corrosion on the wheel weights. it was down there for 3 years and was fine. i wouldnt worry about it. the 285 does not stick down as much as i thought it was going to.

Yea it looks like we are good until we hit a 285/75 17 (33.8 inch), at that point it has to be external.

Thoughts on mounting a 255/80/17 to the spare in order to not interfere with departure angle, while keeping the diameter close (1.1% difference) to the 285/70/17?

Can confirm a 285/70/17 KO2 fits.
Not all 285/70/17 are the same diameter and the KO2 is tight.

285/70 ridge grappler on 8.5” fits fine. Obviously hangs down a bit
