Would depend on your weight, but they're pretty sturdy. I weigh about 170 lbs and the center of the lid is the only thing that bends, and even then just barely.

The underside of the lid has some support ridges. Ex:

It really is a perfect fit. I've used the three 1719 Planos and a Raingler divider for camping since last fall. Details here.

The versatility of this setup cured me of my desire to build drawers.

These cases are great. The alternate configuration below is bit more snug.

For those asking how sturdy they are- 245 lbs sitting on it with barely any flex in the lid.

These bins have really got me thinking now... In fact, I think I have one here that I used to keep in the back of my truck prior to getting the 4Runner. I will have to run down to my shop and double check.

I was wanting to build a basic drawer system for a couple few reasons.

1) Orginization. Right now there is just so much stuff laying in the back of my 4Runner.

2) I wanted a slide out shelf/platform. Something that I can slide out and use as a table or platform for working on things. The depth of the rear bumper step means that working on anything back there requires you to lean forward and I find it awkward.

3) I wouldn't say security but something to slow down a thief. Not only would it help keep things more out of view I could lock it as one more method to slow anyone down. Would eliminate smash and grabs which is my main concern. I would feel a lot better running in for dinner or grabbing something at the store with my camera bag and rifle locked up in a box rather than on the backseat.

I feel like I could almost build a short platform with a slide out table. Possibly no drawers but just storage for a small tent or other little items. Then have a system on top that would secure a couple few of these Plano containers to it. Wouldn't be as slick but a padlock on a case bolted down would slow anyone down.

Plus with the cases out of the rig daily driver duties would be simpler. Plenty of room for groceries and what not. (Yes, I am a realist and know my rig is 90% daily driver duty and 10% play. Hence the stock size AT tires that get me almost 20mpg still.)

Someone else posted a while ago you can replace those coat hooks with rings, its a part on the FJ Cruiser. I replaced mine. I think I have a spare set but I had to move everything around in my work room, can't find anything now. I bought them from Olathe Toyota but any online Toyota dealer should have them.

Here's how they fit with the slide out tray. I got a set of those velcro cargo blocks to keep them from sliding around. But I also got some carpet cargo mat material to avoid the velcro blocks pulling up the stock carpeting and damaging it. Thanks again for the tip on these containers. They're pretty awesome.

Just wanted to share how well these Clevermade collapsible crates fit. I love that they have lids and flatten down when not in use.

Built a little storage solution this morning that keeps everything under the window line/cargo cover, but lets me slide some shit underneath the containers.

I’m a big fan of the 1919s attached to a frontrunner roof rack and a front hitch mounted cargo tray. I have 3 boxes thus far and plan to get a 4th they work so well for my setup. I use rollercam ratchets to tie them down.

12 of these fit beautifully

With the second row folded down, six of these boxes fit perfectly and there is more than enough space for a complete second level. Add in some @RainglerNets products: attic nets, behind the front seats net, and some additional square rings in the rear area for more tie-down points...yeah, it would be pretty perfect...

does the 1919 have dividers? That would be cool if you could divide up the interior

I'm going to do a cargo floor plate and I'm going to bolt/quick detach one of the boxes down just for that. Just ordered one to play around with for a bit until I sort everything I want to do out.

I had this thought so follow along and let me know if it's viable.

I have a Rhino Rack pioneer platform rack, instead of storing these in the back why not mount them on top. Since the RR uses unistrut style mounting I could drill through the bottom of the container and secure it that way right?
