The 89121-50020 unit is simply a light sensor that will allow the dash lights to dim based on ambient light. It does not turn on or off the headlights. There’s a thread that deals with the complexities of adding automatic headlight capability:
Automatic headlights at night : possible mod?

for dash lights to dim, it's just a matter of replacing that sensor? is there a DIY write up? also, any other harness required?

Can't you turn it on max brightness using the switch to the left of the steering wheel?

You can disable the ECO light in the instrument panel settings.

I am talking about the bar, not the light. Anyways, yes i know there is a way to do with the carista app but i am talking about just tweaks here and there that Toyota should do without the consumer having to mod it.

you can but in a modern car, one shouldn't have to do that.

The Limited and the PRO do have auto headlights - so that's why the wire harness is there.

I think the current 4 runner is pretty well built other than some minor details like led headlights/fogs(standard from factory not toyota upgrade),led interior lights, push start/smart key, bigger navi screen with pandora back. And car play.

See this thread. Page 2570, starting at post #38550.
What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!
Edit: Looks like post numbering changed over time. It’s now at post #38505:

I don't think this was mentioned, but my only major annoyance that Toyo needs to fix is that the drivers window control lock button, when engaged, locks out window controls for the driver too. Once it's activated I can't roll down anything, not even my own window. Insane!
This has to be a mistake.

Yes! I meant to include that in my annoyances. Another thing I consider lazy engineering. They should have just walked over next door to Lexus and brain stormed. My GS doesn't do this.

My 2018 TRD/ORP has the harness snapped into the plug. Will go look for the sensor next!
Thanks for this gem of a mod.
