Rumor is new Tundra 450hp V6

YouTube

Watch the video from TFL. With platform sharing between the 4runner, Tacoma and Tundra and this news that the big boy is losing cylinders, it looks like the V8 is dead in all Toyota vehicles.

They may be moving to a diesel in the Tundra. Possibly an option down the road for the Tacoma as well?

I heard a while back that they were developing a diesel option for the tundra (not like they don't have any suitable diesel engines already) so maybe that's the reason for possibly no v8 going forward?

Turbo 450hp V6 is what TFL reports in the video from an unknown inside source.

Definitely no derzuls. Too bad about them dropping a V8 option because I'd definitely move to one of the big three to get one.

You can thank CAFE standards for the loss. They may be available in other brands, but it will cost you to specify them. The vehicle world is moving to high mpg/hybrid/ev type vehicles.
I think the probability of a hybrid is very good. Turbos are also an option whether diesel or gas.

I don't think Toyota will be that extreme. They like to take baby steps.

My ‘09 Tundra with the 5.7 V8 was the smoothest running most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned. I replaced it with a ‘17 Ford F-150 with the 2.7 V6 and twin turbos. Very fast, but the engine sounded like crap and idled a bit rough. The turbos failed and were replaced by 23,000 miles plus a bunch of other crap that went wrong. I replaced it with the old school 2019 T4R OR in April and I’m so happy I did.

I understand that a Toyota with turbos will probably be more reliable than most. After my experience with horribly unreliable turbocharged cars in the 80s and the steaming piece of crap turbocharged F-150 I’ll pass on a Tundra with a twin turbo V6.

Would love to have the option of a factory D4D in a 4Runner, but I'll believe it when I see it. If Toyota ever planned to offer a diesel in the USA, I think they would have already done it before our emissions laws became batshit crazy.

I don’t agree that the vehicle world is moving to high mpg/hybrid/ev. Big SUVs are popular again. Gas isn’t that expensive. I think I heard Ford cut production on pretty much all cars and ramping up trucks and suvs. I see so many Tahoe’s and Yukon’s on the road now than ever.

All of these companies are starting to steer away from V8s. The Ford V6 eco boost outperforms the V8 in every aspect, and is the standard. V8s are on the decline.

The ecoboost v6's are fine for most owners, because most people use their F-150 as a passenger vehicle. If you need the truck to regularly haul or tow heavy loads, the V8 is what you want. The 2.7 in particular is a total dog while towing, and fuel economy is terrible.

I expect age will not be kind to any ecoboost that has to work for a living. I wouldn't buy one.
