Vehicle Will Not Move When Placed In Drive

I recently returned from a four week stretch of travel were my 2015 4Runner was parked in my driveway the entire time. Yesterday I was going to run some errands, started the 4runner, put it in drive and it wouldn’t move. The vehicle attempted to lurch but it was as if something was holding it in place. Same thing when I placed it in reverse. I placed it in neutral just to see if I could roll the vehicle forward a little on my own and no luck. It was as if it was still in park.

No engine / warning lights to indicate any issues and my wife has not observed any fluids leaking from the vehicle in the time that I was gone, nor is there any evidence on the ground that something may have leaked and gone unnoticed. I checked silly things like making sure I didn’t have the parking brake engaged. In a naïve hope that maybe the computer just needed to be reset, I disconnected and reconnected that battery (heck, it used to work for my old windows laptop often enough). Anyway, I had no luck on any with any of those attempts.

Would greatly appreciate thoughts and insights from forum members. Thank you!

It could be that your brake pads are stuck to your rotors. I have had this happen to mine.

I agree with the others that the pads have rusted to the rotors. Give her some gas and it'll break loose.

Yep, if you're in Neutral and there's no free movement of the truck, brakes are seized somewhere!

I had to place it in 4W-Low, but once I did and gently depressed the gas, she broke free. Thanks for the replies!

I've actually never heard of this before. Thanks for updating. Informative.
Glad it was nothing serious
