Can you remove 3M tapes if you take the ladder off?

Technically - everything is removable.
If you're not familiar with 3M VHB - use the tape that comes with it. Some types of VHB will take paint off.

I suspect the tape that comes with it will take paint off, too. I was considering putting some clear paint protector underneath. Does that sound like a good idea?

No. The tape that comes with it will release (I have done this twice now). It takes effort, but from what I could see it won't mess up the paint.

That is a bad idea. The tape would only be as strong as the vinyl you use there and it not a good adhesion surface. You just need to make sure you dont use the 3m tape that says “permanent bond”.

Finally got around to installing mine today.
1. New plate had zero issues laying flat and even though it is close no scraping
2. I sent the entire hardware packet to PCbolts.com to have matte black powder coated. As usual the quality and CS were outstanding. I have done a lot of hardware with them and none of it has chipped while torquing down, and 100% coverage
3. When I had my clear mask installed I had them throw on a patch above the first step location. Highly recommend doing this, there is very little toe room.
4. Installed the C4 recommendation for new struts. Really these are a must imo. They are a little longer though. Making the clearance to my Rhino rack pretty tight. I have my rack pushed forward about 1/4” from touching the shark fin.
Great product, design and quality. Love the rubber steps

Throw a loaded gascan on that ladder... you’ll need even beefier struts

just curious what uses people are getting out of the ladder?
I was considering getting one and thought it would be useful for getting to the RTT to help make setup easier, but it seems like standing on the rear bumper is just as good, and with the RTT up there I cant walk on the rack anyway because there is no space.
only use I can think of for myself is adding rotopax for gas/water

OP, your pictures are too big to see what's going on. If you use the IMG tags on Imgur and add an 'h' before the .jpg in the link, it'll resize them nicely.
Example using your first pic:
Find the Imgur IMG code on the Imgur page of your pic. Copy it. Paste it here, but add an 'h' right before .jpg like this:
[IMG https: //i.imgur. com/jXOzpRL h.jpg /IMG]
I left spaces and brackets open in that link because the forum is trying to “fix” it for me even though all I want to do is show an example.
Then, your pics will be forum friendly like this:

For me, RotoPax (mostly water) and I have an X-cover RTT on order and if I want to load items on top of it I think getting better access will help. Then maybe a shovel
But I have to admit, I struggled with buying a ladder. So many Range Rovers around here with ladders and no rack. If C4 had not come up with this design I wouldn’t own one. But is it a need...no

Makes me happy in this day and age to see a business standing by their product and making it right for their customers..while I certainly don't need a ladder, it definitely adds to the cool factor and if I decide to buy one it will be from C4..
side note, I've looked through this entire thread and not one pic on anyone standing on that ladder..how about it??

Thanks for the reply! I have a smittybilt xl tent on my rack now and there is no room to walk up there or even to store anything really. There is basically no room for anything else, not even rotopax on the roof. I may consider the ladder simply for rotopax if anything. I thought there would be more room up there, but as it stands it seems it would nullify the usefulness of the ladder except for accessories.

My cargo area holds my campsite, photography gear, clothes, and some misc. regularly needed things. My entire second row belongs to my dog. So I have 2 cases on the roof for things I don’t need as often: tools, misc. emergency stuff (ex: tire patch kit), camp shower, dirty clothes, day hiking pack. I will also use the roof as a photography platform in some cases.
But mostly the ladder will just look cool.
