Sorry don't know the torque specs but want to answer the other question.

I like this one. Used the 4th gen tool for a couple years. Now in the 5th gen I got this one from the same guy on ebay.

Oil-filter wrench Toyota/Lexus/Scion - 09228-06501 | eBay

I'll use the 5th gen oil wrench this weekend on the plastic canister to remove and the aluminum to install. I'll remember to add a comment here confirming it works. But I bet it will.

Years ago, I fell for all the Tundra forum hype that the aluminum filter housing was way superior to plastic. I replaced the plastic filter housing on my '09 Tundra with an aluminum one and it was always so hard to remove after that. The plastic housing was always easy to remove. The aluminum housing would stick like it was welded on especially if I waited 7,000+ miles between oil changes. Busted a few removal tools with the aluminum housing then switched back to the plastic and life was so much easier. 7 years and 150,000 miles with the plastic housing and it never broke.

I broke my plastic oil filter housing during an oil change, using the OEM oil filter tool. 1st oil change after 30k service program was up. I assume the service dept. over tightened it, as they do every thing. All that aside, The aluminum works very well. I refer to this video, however torque specs. are in owners manual.

I agree it's very difficult, but not nearly stuck enough to break any tool. I put a bit of oil on the gasket before install

I ordered an aluminum housing as a replacement in case the plastic housing fails. I doubt it ever will, since I'll be the one changing the oil. Never had issues with the plastic housing on any of my VW's.

When my wife bought her '14 4R 5 yrs. ago I decided to buy a spare plastic housing in the event the original ever broke during an oil change. I know many have opted for the metal replacement. My '06 Avalon came with one.
I have 2 of the special removal tools made for this style filter housing.
For the 4R, I've never had to use them. The small round plug that is removed on the bottom in order to facilitate draining the housing was tightened REAL tight at the factory. I simply take a 3/8" breaker bar and insert a short 3/8" extension into the square hole in the bottom of this plug and off comes the filter housing. To this day, that small round plug remains locked.

A number of people on some of the Tundra forums utilize my approach by applying lock-tite to the threads on the round plug. I'm not suggesting anyone do this, just saying mine ended up like this somehow.

18th oil change approaching. Doing just fine.
