Another RED/WHITE Interior Lights Option

Just a friendly warning that the rest of this thread has been trashed by a couple of trolls with a weird agenda. Almost 6 pages of seemingly drug induced nonsense. I've combined all of the pictures and info into this first post and also on my blog (listed in signature)

I found the assemblies online and ordered a full set for $66 as opposed to $345 for the other brand, delivered via the free slow boat from China. The sales company is in England but is a Chinese owned and run business. No documentation available online nor supplied with your order. If you can't handle figuring things out for yourself or don't have any mechanical skills these boards are not for you.

Free shipping Front reading / Rear reading / Hatch lights Lamp Bulbs LED replacement For 2010-2019 Toyota 4Runner

Two are for the rear hatch, one for the passenger dome light and one for the front map lights. The black module is a constant current circuit and it is not polarity sensitive.

Each module has the same count of chip LEDs controlled by a pushbutton: 26 Red and 26 White

The map lights are the only board with two pushbuttons and four sets of LEDs

With a 13.85v DC supply voltage typical current consumption for each board was: 360 mA for Red LEDs and 420 mA for White LEDs

All of the LEDs are driven in parallel and this can be seen on the traces on the passenger dome light board. Across each individual LED the typical voltage was: 2.36 volts for Red LEDs and 2.88 volts for White LEDs

A typical filament bulb pulls around 800 mA at 13 volts so you have less light for more watts, about 10 watts versus 5.8 Watts for the LEDs

My install pictures

Maplight board fits just fine. You must first remove the Toyota metal reflector lens and I did that by bending the small tabs inward and pulling the reflector down and out with bending it.

The two white plugs that plug into the 194 bulb sockets need to be shortened as they are too tall. The Chinese never performed any fit tests. My connectors ended up looking like this

Note how you must drill two holes for the pushbuttons to stick through. Be accurate so the buttons move smoorthly.

Dome light installed. Note because of the close fit you will first drill a hole centered on the pushbutton then use small jewelers files to turn that into a small square hole. The body of the switch will fit through the hole.

Hatch lights are pretty easy. I ran the constant current module to the outside and held it with 3m Double Sticky Tape, right above the slide switch.

Lights in operation at night!

Yea no thanks. These guys keep shitting on people's hard work and innovation by stealing and profiting from other peoples designs. Besides I could use a few less rich Chinese teenagers with their Ferraris and Lambos around here.

Switchable red and white chip LEDs on printed circuit boards are old news and no one has an exclusive patent on the idea nor can they claim "innovation". I am not exonerating the majority of Chinese industries from their intellectual theft but your forum outrage is baseless.

Example:

https://store.marinebeam.com/red-whi...n-dome-15-rww/

"Our dual color Red & White Switchable Constellation replacement LED bulb is made specifically for the standard dome lights and square ceiling lights found in most boats and RV's. We offer in all the standard bulb base styles, including Bayonet Single-Contact (BA15S), Bayonet Double-Contact (BA15D), T10 Wedge (W2.1x9.5d), Festoon (SV8.5), and Bi-Pin (G4). Custom bases or pigtails by request.

This drop-in bayonet LED replacement features two modes from the same bulb! It can function as either a red bulb, for preserving night vision, or with a quick flick of your existing switch, it can morph into a high-output super-bright Warm White bulb."

Eh, just go with the originals of better quality and only about $20 more. I'm sure they'll last exponentially longer and have better warranty/service anyhow:

ArcLightLEDs

I mean I get it, people want to save money, but if you think about it, most of the issues we're having currently with China stem back to decades of consumers and companies choosing the cheaper import over the pricier domestic.

Only $20 more?

Icarus Hatch eXtreme - 5th Generation 4Runner (Pair) $109.00

Icarus eXtreme Map - 5G 4Runner $129.00

Icarus eXtreme Dome - 4G & 5G 4Runner & 3G Tacoma $99.00

Total without shipping is $337

$337 - $66 = $271

Look, I get the loyalty to American made but everyone here bought a Japanese SUV and aren't exactly taking the moral high ground let alone hitting me with accurate facts.

Best regards,

Jim

$20-40-whatever per item. Still, the point stands. I haven't personally purchased Arclight products yet, but when I am ready I'll fork over what they ask for the domes and hatch lights because they're a better product.

And yes I was fully aware of the fact that I bought a Japanese SUV, but that's also because it's a quality product and not a cheap knock-off. I won't buy American made vehicles anymore because generally speaking, the quality is straight crap. Besides, lots of 'American' vehicles have at least partial assembly and/or component manufacture in Mexico or some other place, but I suppose that's globalization for you. The real culprits have always been those bosses that moved production overseas to remain competitive, and those consumers who bought whatever was cheapest whilst bearing no responsibility for the outcomes.

Not trying to sound harsh just digressing hah.

And after following your link and examining prices in detail, I'm actually shocked to see that the rear hatch pair are discounted to $25................

That pretty much negates every complaint I have about possible quality. At that price, even if they last just a year or two that's definitely a good deal.

ArcLights will cost you $218 for the dome light ($119) and the two rear hatch lights ($99 for the pair).

CarTrimHome will cost you $66 for the two rear hatch lights, rear reading light, and front reading light. It does not include the dome light.

I can't speak to the customer service or the quality, but if this is a mod people have had an eye one - it might be worth the risk/wait.

Looks like a great option--thanks for the link teotwaki! Option is the key word...those not wanting a Chinese made product have other options.

I'm so old I remember when "Made in Japan" was considered an evil thing and the product was considered junk. Now here we are, all driving made in Japan 4Runners and proud of it. Amusing. Oh, check under the hood of your "Made in Japan" vehicle and notice all the "globally sourced" parts. The world today.

I thought all of us called the center passenger light a "dome" light and the vendor is calling it a "rear reading light". What we have called the front map lights they are calling "front reading lights". Right?

He could easily go back and edit his post. Considering his first statement is pretty flawed he might as well delete his whole post.

BTW, Toyota ripped off Chevy and Ford's "innovations" back in the 80's

Just sayin'

Forgive me, my brain isn't entirely with it today. You are correct. Their "front reading lights" is what we call the dome, and their "rear reading light" is the center passenger light.

For the cost, I'm willing to take the risk on quality - I placed an order so we'll see how they hold up. I'll try to snap some before/after photos of how the output is once I receive/install them.
