I just had Yokohama GO15s mounted today, 265/70 SL. I had Cooper ATPs in an E load on my 2013 and they were way too much tire for my driving. They wore like iron, but got noisy after about 20k miles. The Yokos get pretty good reviews and I'm not planning on any suspension mods for at least a year so I didn't want to size up, and I'm not a big fan of really aggressive sidewall lugs. I think the white letters out add a nice old school touch with the stock wheels...

I'll be getting C load KO2s when the time comes. Lots of sharp/jagged limestone that can shred tires in the desert southwest. I hear the KO2's hold up very well in this regard.

Here is another vote for the Firestone Destination AT2. Best bang for the buck imo. I have heard good things about the Coopers and Nitto's have good treadwear but your going to spend more money.

the other tires mentioned are great tires im sure, but based on reviews & tire rack & C/R's ratings, the goodyear trail runner beats the coopers, firestones & many other higher priced brands in most of the categories you are looking for... ride comfort & noise, wet/dry traction, wear, etc. its rated #5 out of like 20+ tires & was #4 untill the pirelli scorpion was recently added, but it only has like 50k miles worth of reviews vs 300k for goodyears & other brands. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/surve....jsp?type=ORAT
they dont rate the falkens at tire rack & im sure they are better for real off road & are "w3" rated so better in snow, but the good years rate very good in snow & very good to excellent in all other categories... & they are cheaper than many of the other brands based on MSRP.
BUT, a little secret is to order off goodyear.com & they will price match "fake" prices you tell them, within reason. i said i found them for $130/tire free shipping, they matched & beat that to $120/tire free ship. & if you have a authorized goodyear store in your town they will mount & balance with lifetime rotation & balance for $14/tire. i didnt have an auth store in my town so they went one step further & reduced the price to $112/tire to offset having to pay for rotation & balance. cant beat that price for a very good rated tire. &, goodyear has a $100 rebate untill 6/30... so after mount & balance, taxes, & lifetime rotation/balance i paid about $125/tire! best value out there.
as for my personal opinion, the trail runners are a very nice tire. they have a nice aggresive tread pattern but not overkill like the wildpeaks or bfg's etc. they ride very nice & are almost silent, no louder than the worn highway tires that were on it. they are also a P metric tire & very light, vs the LT or E-load tires that can hurt MPG compared to lighter tires. & i love the mild aggressive looks of the sidewall & main tread. i have no doubt these would do great in mild off road conditions as well as any other daily driving situations. like many, i'm on a budget for car expenses/upgrades so i like to shop around for the best deals & value. these goodyears are great tires & are as good as or better than many other brands in many categories & are much cheaper.

Old thread but wondering how the trail runners have worked out for you? Not a lot of mentions of them anywhere.

Tire choice for the very occasional off roading

You didn’t ask me but I’ll say that Goodyear Wranglers ride great but you have to be aware sometimes they rot at the bead if you typically leave them on 10+ years.
FWIW I have Michelin LTX M/S and BFG KO both 13 yr old sitting on trucks in the same driveway that haven’t cracked at the bead.
If you will drive them enough to wear the tread down by year 8 I’d say go for it and have fun. Had a set of Wrangler AT/S that were perfect in every way and only $159 a tire in that exact size, 265/70R17. Also a 99% on road vehicle.
Below is a direct link to that tire:

I like my Duratracs. They did well. No flat tire or sidewall ripped. I have driven it through various type of terrain. It does well on road. AT duratrac is not as good on slippery mud that is expected. I had it for 5 years and no dry rotting or crack. Only balanced it once.

Falken wild peak or Cooper at3. Keep weight in mind, try to get lightest possible tire.

Wildpeak (P)
Cooper AT3 (P)
KO2 (C)
Toyo AT3 (P)
Grab a quarter, flip between the first two. Flip again between last two. Flip one more time between the winners.
Just buy a set, you'll be fine.

I'm taking one for the team here. I just got Pirelli Scorpion ATs put on my (1400 mile) '21 ORP, a newish tire that I don't see a lot of folks wearing on this board. Had them on for a week and can say: a) I don't notice a difference in noise over the OEM Dunlops (my wife notices just a little), road handling is similar/same as OEM, and c) they have been awesome in the rain so far. No off road yet, but will probably get a bit of a chance in a month when we go on vacation. I didn't want to go too off-road centric during the first part of our 4Rs life as it will mostly be on road mileage until out of warranty.
Will continue to report as I get more miles on them.
Edit: I should add that I've been running Pirellis on my Honda Accord for quite some time now (street tires, obviously) and have had a good experience with them.

I had the Cooper slated as the next set, but since they've been purchased by Goodyear (bleagh but for Duratrac and insert discussion why here) I expect quality to go down.

The G015 is now my choice for the next set also.

I'm really happy with my Nitto Ridge Grapplers, but will probably move up to Wildpeaks next set.

Set of Falken Wildpeaks AT3W P rated here 265s
been from Florida to Northern Michigan, spent the winter, Michigan to San Diego and back, another winter, Michigan to Washington state, up and down west coast and Washington state to S Florida. This last trip (9862 miles) was loaded heavy with a roof cargo bag, had to air the rear tires up to 50psi. Smooth as can be at 80mph and not noisy. Handled the mud and snow in the western mountains very well. Wear seems very good too.
Would buy again
