Strange Dash Lights

I was driving today and noticed my newly installed ScanGauge II kept turning off by itself. I would turn it back on and after about the 3rd or 4th time this occurred, my speedometer said I was driving approximately 40-50 mph when I was only going about 20-30 mph. I believe the entire gauge cluster flashed while this happened and then my ABS and traction control light stayed on. Car felt like it drove normal so I pulled over and shut off the engine. When I turned it back on, the ABS and traction light turned off and it seems to be normal now. I installed a new battery, ScanGauge and a voltage booster within the past week and a half, but this is the first time it did this.

Quick update. I thought it was just a one time “glitch”, but it happened 3 more times. Every time, the ScanGauge would not stay powered on and then the ABS and traction light will illuminate.

So far, I’ve checked that the battery connections are nice and tight. Checked ABS wires at all wheels and they appear to be okay. Read that it could be a loose gas gap, but I checked and re tightened it anyway. I can’t replicate the issue. It’s very random. I wiggles the wire harness that connects the ScanGauge to OBD port thinking it was a loose connection there, but it wouldn’t replicate the previous issues.

Why do you have a voltage booster?

I have an AGM battery and they require around 14 volts to keep it charged. The stock alternator only puts out around 13.5 volts.

Have you tried removing it and seeing if the lights go away when you clear the code?

Ok have you taken the voltage booster off to see if it would cure your problem?

I reached out to ScanGauge customer support and they responded with:

"Your vehicle runs the CANSF protocol (required in US vehicles after 2008), so we can send you a cable that isolates that protocol."

They're sending me a "custom CAN only cable". Hopefully that solves it.

interesting, that happened one time to me about 6 months ago but i assumed it was due to low voltage since it happened immediately after i was testing how long my fridge would run before hitting the low voltage shutoff.

Do you also have a ScanGauge hooked up? Or just the other symptoms?

interesting I don't even seen that cable you are referring to being sold separately. What mode are you running on the arclights booster, what was your reported V at start and after 30 mins of driving?

Update after I recollected my google search powers: >> X-Gauge Categories >> CANSF

Yea - not sure about the cable they're referring to either. I didn't see any threads on this forum mentioning using a different cable. I'm running "boost" on the arclights booster.

not boost+?

I would undo the SG ODBII cable for now until your CAN cable comes in.
