2010 no-start upon first crank. Second try starts

This has become more and more common lately. It’s exactly like when you disconnect the battery, then the first time you try to start it, it dies. The second try it runs fine.

Battery is new. No codes. Runs great.

Do these vehicles suffer from CPS failures ?

Thanks

On my vehicles this has been a fuel pressure regulator leaking the pressure off into the tank.

Thanks,
I’ll look into it. So from searching, it seems the 4th gen has CPS problems, but I can’t find much on the 5gen.

I had the same problem with another vehicle. The fix was to replace the fuel pump where a one way valve is located to keep the pressure up until the next start.

We got around this for a long time by moving the key to the run position and waiting a few seconds, then go to start. This ran the fuel pump for 2 seconds before starting. Sometimes we went to off, then back to on to make the pump cycle a few times. Finally replaced the fuel pump to fix it.

This is definitely a possibility as the vehicle has 186000+ miles on it. I'll look into it.

Thanks

Not sure if our T4s do it the same way or if there is a regulator or valve upstream from the gas tank and fuel pump.

To troubleshoot mine, I bought a fuel pressure gauge and a T fitting to put in the fuel line between the tank and engine. It showed about 50 psi but slowly bleed off overnight. It was OK to drive during the day.
