You can do that on your own if you want to void the warranty or pay to ship them to Baja Designs and pay to have them do it to keep the warranty. I called and asked them and that's what they told me

Baja Squadron SAE review
What I'm reading is that the pattern isn't as tight as the Rigid, meaning it throws light on a larger area, and can produce more glare for oncoming drivers.

What I'm looking for is an aux light that I can use on the street, and drive around with them uncovered, and still be legal (as the cops are dicks about aux lights around here). Sounds to me like the Baja SAE models are the closest thing to a non-street-legal aux light in terms of light output and pattern that carries the SAE designation I need to not get tickets for using them on the street. Amber SAE BD's look like the way to go for me.

Thanks for posting the link!

Using the sports, pros, or SAE squadrons as auxiliary lighting is fine, as long as you never plan on using them on fog/snow or on the road at all. The decision by Baja Designs to call any of these models "foglights" and make factory mounts to replace real fogs was really irresponsible. Their beam patterns, even for the SAE models, is too widely scattered to be legal or even useful for their intended purpose (lighting the road UNDER the fog, not lighting street signs and tree-tops). These are off-road lights, period.

In other news I finally saw the raw test data for SAE compliance testing on the BD SAE fogs. 15x+ over the legal limit for glare at 2.25 vertical degrees above the cut off. Fifteen. Times. Plus.

I don't think that testing can be that accurate since the test was not done in the 4runner with the round housing? I am no expert, but it seems to me if the BD fogs were installed in with the round housing in the 4runner you would have very different results on where the light is being thrown.

The 4Runner housing is just a mount that allows the light to go in the factory fog locations. It has nothing to do with the optics. No matter where you mount these lights, it's not a proper fog pattern.

Here is a proper fog light pattern:

Here is the Baja Designs SAE fog:

No mount is going to change that glare. Apparently BD has placed a stop sale on these. Waiting to hear what their solution will be.

Haha thanks. Good luck with your search. As for legal fogs I would hold off until BD addresses the problem. Rigid is almost ready to release Toyota mounts for their new 360 series, seen here.

Really?!? That's big news! Where did you see that, was there much for details?

That might put a snag in my black Friday plans.

We have not heard of any Stop Order plans in the works.

During the SEMA Show, Baja Designs admitted to having issues with their SAE Lights.

There shared a solution, that everyone who has already received lights will be getting shipped to them.

We have pics of the SAE Solution, but have been asked not to share just yet.

Our Team Will work on addressing the availability questions and update the thread ASAP.

I have the SAE fogs and they have huge spill, just like the photo.

Is there going to be a user serviceable solution? I'd hate to have to send these back.

Baja Designs did share a User Serviceable Solution.

We hope to share more details soon.
