I Did It and I Dont Regret It
Well, I have been wanting to post this for a while so here it is....I took my 2016 Trail into the dealership for an inspection, tire rotation, air bag recall exchange and oil change and left with a 2019 TRD Off Road. Not only did I get a better 4R, it was the same EXACT vehicle. Grey, with grey interior, no sun roof, grey cloth seats. They looked exactly the same. And not one person I know including my girlfriend knew I had a brand new 4R in the driveway.
Heres the kicker...this 4R was so new on the lot, it wasnt even dealer prepped when I took it for the test drive. It was a complete virgin. It had 3 miles on it! When I started it up, there were dash light warnings. The salesmen and I drove it to the back of the dealership while they were working on my 2016 and in order to turn off the false warning lights, a tech removed a fuse and put into another slot. Its part of the dealer prep.
The whole vehicle was still covered in all the wrappings both inside and out for shipping purposes when I took it for the test drive. It was a dream! No steering wheel wobble, the gas petal was more responsive, the nose dive was much less (but it is still there of course), turning the steering wheel was so much easier as well.
Now I have 550 miles on it and so far so good, no complaints. Keeping my fingers crossed!
But wait, it gets better. I got a great trade in price for my 2016 because of the upgrades to the lights and the modest mods I did to it.
But wait, theres more.....I left that dealership with an upgraded extended warranty on the new 2019 and I am paying $50 less per month then I was for the 2016. And I left that dealership with only 10 miles on the brand spanking new 2019 TRD Off Road.
Everything I complained about with my 2016 in previous posts, or had agreed with others complaints, are gone. But I had to leave my 2016 with all the interior LED lights and the 5000k headlights and fog lights. The gas mileage is still the same but like I said, the petal response is so much better.
AAAnd......the 4R had both the cloth and winter weather floor mats in the back of it and I made sure I left with them all so I am set to go.
Now its back to the drawing board to get LED and Hi Def lights and finally put in the light bar that I always wanted to do but never got around to doing.
Maybe I'm bragging but I gotta tell ya, I am happy and hope to have this 4R for a minimum of 150k miles. It was worth it to bring it in for service that day.

Looks like you scored, congrats!
The contrast between ‘16 and ‘19 is interesting. Maybe they make tweaks along the way.

I've been debating on doing this too. I really like the Voodoo Blue. Congrats though!

Congrats!! I am using XenonDepot's HIDs and love them.
Was it a lease? $50 less a month on a longer payment plan is not really a score but you do get the new warranty.

Congratulations on your purchase!
Did the same thing... traded my '16 for my '19... I was very calculated though. I'd been working the deal for six plus months with my (same) salesman and had about five dealerships within a 500 mile range in a price shootout. Plus, the official Toyota Corporate website had the price on the TRD Pro listed insanely low... turned out to be an error on the Corporate website, but they came extremely close to honoring it...
The '16 was nearly paid off, so it had a ton of equity in it and was still under the original 3x36 factory warranty.
Only paid tax on the difference and got into a '19 Pro... Loving it.

And the airbags aren't the recalled ones from the 2016. Interesting that they may have tweaked the throttle response and maybe stiffened up the front suspension.

Getting a new car is always cool and the new car will always feel better, but let's put things in perspective:
Throttle response on a new car will always be different - and usually more responsive because the car hasn't adapted to your driving style yet.
You may have reduced your payments every month, but you've extended them by 4 or more years.
Any changes that you've noticed or has everything carried over from 2016?

Yes I think the dealer came out ahead, not the OP. They like to play number games with monthly payments and terms.
Not sure why but a lot people care more about monthly payments than the term of the loan. The term is just as equally important.

Congratulations on the new ride. Now you can also get Apple Play is you want.
Brag away, but didn't you say 150,000 miles when you bought your Trail? Ha ha, enjoy!
